The battle on the Lordaeron continent rages on. Alliance forces from the Western Plaguelands and Hillsbrad Foothills have suffered heavy losses and now regroup at the Alterac Mountains under the leadership of Vanndar Stormpike. Meanwhile, Drek'Thar's condition worsens allowing High Warlord Cromush to take complete control of the Horde forces within the area. As the two forces enter a renewed conflict within the Alterac Valley, another group plots to take control over region as well. In the midst of the chaos, a forgotten family returns...

Story

The Alliance retreats from Hillsbrad Foothills after their major defeat at the hands of the Horde. Majority of them regroups at Dun Baldar together with the Stormpike Clan while others regroup at their holdings in the Hinterlands or Arathi Highlands. The Horde pursues them but is unable to score a decisive victory due to the lack of support from the Frostwolf Clan. High Warlord Cromush gets fed up with the Frostwolf’s continued inaction and decides to take over command of the Horde forces stationed. He brings his men to Frostwolf Keep and personally visits Drek’Thar. However, Drek’Thar reminds Cromush that his position was given to him by the former Warchief, Thrall, and therefore, only the current Warchief may replace him. Left with no other choice, Cromush sends a messenger to Garrosh to officially transfer control from Drek’Thar to him.

While waiting for the Warchief's approval, Cromush receives Forsaken reinforcements led by the newly raised Aliden Perenolde in order to secure the region. Their first task was to capture Strahnbrad which was retaken by its citizens from the Syndicate after Aliden's death. Aliden eventually conquers the town for the Horde and raises its inhabitants as new Forsaken.

Meanwhile, Vanndar Stormpike plans the defense of their holdings. Aside from reinforcements from the neighboring regions, he also receives a pack of Worgen led by Isiden Perenolde. Isiden's pack assaults Mordis Castle. There, rogue Undead are being raised by Valimar Mordis using a fragment of the artifact, Orb of Ner'zhul. The Undead force is eventually destroyed and the baron is put to rest once and for all, allowing Mordis Castle to become an Alliance outpost.

While both forces struggle to reinforce their newly acquired holdings, they also launch assaults against one another. Both forces suffer casualties including the newly raised Aiden Perenolde and Isolde Perenolde on the Forsaken side. Isiden requests aid from Weldon Barov in the newly acquired Scholomance but Aliden learns of this and in response, he asks Alexi Barov to assassinate his brother. Alexi, however, refuses citing that his brother is the only one who can continue the Barov line. Nonetheless, Aliden has Weldon assassinated by someone else and has Alexi framed for the assassination. Alexi is executed but not before learning that his brother has an infant son. He dies happy that the Barov line is still preserved. Aliden then alerts the Forsaken forces in Andorhal of the Alliance forces mobilizing in Scholomance preventing the latter from sending aid to Isiden's forces.

As the skirmishes go on, both forces receive representatives from Ravenholdt. It appears that the Syndicate is on the move again and has recently launched an assault on Ravenholdt Manor. Isiden is willing to help but Aliden is reluctant citing his past experiences with the Ravenholdt when he was still leader of the Syndicate. Nonethless, the latter sends fellow Forsaken, Baron Vardus, and a small group of soldiers to "take care of things". Both forces eventually drive the Syndicate from Ravenholdt Manor. However, the group led by Baron Vardus starts raising fallen Humans afterwards and begins attacking both the Ravenholdt and the Alliance reinforcements. The Alliance escorts survivors back to their bases as Baron Vardus' soldiers lay ruin to Ravenholdt Manor. However, survivors such as Myrokos Silentform and Master Kang are able to contact Cromush and report Baron Vardus' treachery. Isiden insists that he had nothing to do with the attack on Ravenholdt and then executes Baron Vardus himself.

After the incident on Ravenholdt Manor, both forces try to eliminate the remaining Syndicate. However, their initial attempts are unsuccessful as the new leader of the Syndicate, Beve Perenolde, has taken control of the Crushridge Ogres as well. Beve has also turned the Ruins of Alterac into her fortress. Aliden starts using the Val'kyr to raise fallen Humans. To counter this, Isiden stops deploying Human troops. In addition, he orders for the water supply of the Syndicate to be infected with Worgen blood. Syndicate troops that turned into Worgen either remained loyal, turned feral, or defected to Isiden's side. Regardless, there were less corpses for the Val'kyr to raise. Aliden then called for Banshees to possess the Ogres. Eventually, Beve's forces begin to falter. Isiden and Aliden independently infiltrates the Ruins of Alterac to personally finish Beve off. Before either can deliver the final blow, Beve Perenolde conjures a spell that causes an avalanche to wipe the Ruins of Alterac off the map. Isiden and Aliden survive but their respective forces suffer heavy casualties. The Syndicate and Crushridge Ogres are wiped out and Beve is nowhere to be seen.

Isiden and Aliden are recalled by their respective superiors to help in planning. Vanndar Stormpike has already evacuated Human troops from the area and has received reinforcements from Ironforge. Meanwhile, High Warlord Cromush has officially replaced Drek'Thar as leader of the Horde forces in the region. Eventually, the two forces will face each other for dominion over the region.

Alliance Quests

  • Quest Title: Tale of a Prince
    • Start: Isiden Perenolde
    • End: Isiden Perenolde
    • Objective: Escort Prince Isiden Perenolde and his pack to Mordis Castle Ruins.
    • Description: If we are to retake Alterac City, we would need to have another base of operations. There is an abandoned Castle nearby, Mordis Castle. From there, we would be able to launch surgical strikes against the enemy. I ask that you escort me and my aides there.
    • Dialogue:
      • Isiden: You may think lowly of me because of my family name, but I do not blame you. Ever since my uncle's treason became public, other people became wary of our entire family. Spare me what you think of me. I had nothing to do with it and I have been through many hardships...
      • (Isiden pauses for a while)
      • Isiden: I grew up without my parents for they were killed during the war between my kingdom and Stromgarde. I grew up in my uncle's household. I may have been royalty but I never lived comfortably there. My uncle never bothered with me as if I don't exist. My cousins on the other hand saw me nothing of more than threat to their own ambitions. The only one who took care of me was my aunt. She treated me as if I was one of her own children... Unfortunately, she passed away just before the Second War.
      • (Isiden pauses for a while)
      • All of a sudden, the Second War erupted. I was part of the company my uncle brought to Lordaeron. Uncle would always comment on how he wanted the Capital City for himself but I did not pay attention to it... As the war raged on, the Horde have decimated much of the Alliance frontlines. Uncle called for a council with the nobles of Alterac. Many were concerned on what would happen once the Horde were at our doorsteps. Others feared that the orcs have already infiltrated the mountains as there were sightings as early as the First War. General Hath's proclamation that our armies would not last even a single day fighting the orcs only worsened the condition. During one of the meetings, an orc warlock had used magic to turn a mirror in the hall as a means to communicate with us. Many were scared, as was I, when we saw the orcs on the other side of the mirror. However, what happened next scared me even more. They have offered us a chance to save our skins by betraying our comrades and without hesitation, majority of the nobles agreed! Some nobles protested, like Baron Valimar Mordis, but they were subsequently put on house arrest. Others played safe by pretending to go along but distanced themselves from the royal family such as Lord Alexei Barov. As for me, I did nothing. NOTHING. I just stood there as my uncle doomed our kingdom.
      • (Iliden transform into Worgen Form)
      • Isiden: The Second War was over but then came the Alterac Crisis. While King Terenas and King Thoras debated on what to do with Alterac, we were left at the mercy of the Alliance troops stationed in the city. They beat up the nobles and humiliated them in front of their subjects. What did I do, you ask?... I ran. I and my aides escaped the kingdom pretending to be travelers. At that time, I did not know what to do. If King Terenas was to be followed, my cousin Aiden would become king and he would likely cast me aside leaving me with nothing. If King Thoras was to be followed on the other hand, Alterac would be no more and I may still end up with nothing as well. I requested council with my aides. They told me that I could become king and the only thing I needed to pull it off was a patron. Lordaeron and Stromgarde were out of the question. Kul'Tiras sided with Lordaeron. Stormwind was too busy rebuilding its territory. Lastly, Dalaran did not concern themselves with politics. The only kingdom I can turn to was Gilneas.
      • (Isiden pauses for a while)
      • Isiden: When I arrived in Gilneas, I asked an audience with King Genn and his government to plead my case with them. Even before I discussed with them, I knew they were going to ask something in return. Eventually, the plot thickens. They were going to wed Genn's daughther, Tess, to me as part of a political marriage. Alterac, under my leadship, was to become a close ally of Gilneas. Genn would then accompany me to Lordaeron where I would come face to face with my contenders. Then came long and grueling arguments and nobody was willing to back down. Genn and I had a failing when he transferred his support to a pretender named Daval Prestor but that came to pass. As the debates continue, I lost hope of becoming king. Eventually, Genn grew tired and gave up the idea. Furthermore, he wanted to build a wall to isolate Gilneas. He gave me two choices: I was to leave Gilneas and be on my own or I was to stay and never be able to return to my homeland...
      • (Isiden pauses for a while)
      • Isiden: I chose the latter. I had everything I wanted there. Genn's family accepted me better than my uncle's. I was also treated like royalty as well. When news had reached Gilneas that the Scourge had laid waste to most of the continent, I never even bothered of what happened to Alterac. Then as if fate has punished me for abandoning my homeland, I was infected by the Worgen curse. I slaughtered countless innocents during my rampage until Lord Darius made me regain my senses. Unfortunately, I have too much blood on my hands already. To make up for what did, I helped the Gilneans battle the Forsaken. I stayed behind with others to protect Gilneas as the civilians flee. Eventually, the 7th Legion got involved and secured Gilneas City. It was at that time that I left Gilneas in their hands while I try to find out about Alterac's fate. After all that, here I am now.
      • (Isiden howls)
      • Isiden: Thank you for listening. I have been meaning to get those out of my chest for some time now.
    • Progress: The Castle is nearby.
    • Completion: Here we are, Mordis Castle. This shall be my stepping stone in restoring Alterac to its former glory... Wait! I sense something.
  • Quest Title: Tough Love
    • Start: Isiden Perenolde
    • End: Isiden Perenolde
    • Objective: Kill Aiden Perenolde and Isolde Perenolde
    • Description: I have just received terrible news... My uncle and aunt are among the Forsaken. Imagine the suffering they're going through right now... To be honest, I don't really care about uncle but I am concerned about aunt. Please, put them down.
    • Progress: Take the pleasure of inflicting as much pain as you can to uncle but make it quick for aunt.
    • Completion: Thank you, you have done both me and the Alliance a favor. Leave me now and allow me to mourn.
