== Overhaul of Patch_mirrors page ==
Note that if you have an OnClick tag in your XML File that sends arg1 to a function, the function will get LeftButton and RightButton, not LeftButtonDown, LeftButtonUp, RightButtonDown, RightButtonUp

  +
Blizzard is finally offering REAL patch files to 4.01.13164 & 4.0.1.13205, as evident by this page (Atomicgamer for instance offers those files too):
  +
http://games.on.net/filelist.php?app=178&menu=1

  +
I believe it's time to edit the page so we can list patches for each region again, as before, not just those MPG & TFIL files.

How long will WoWWiki be online yet? I may want to copy/paste articles from there when the articles there are more recent than those that have already been copied to here. [[User:Hans Kamp|Hans Kamp]] ([[User talk:Hans Kamp|talk]]) 19:10, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

I assume that these would work, too : "MiddleButtonDown", "Button4Down", "Button5Down"

The important part that Myrrion states is that RegisterForClicks wants the up/down state of the key, whereas the OnClick code will only get the name of the button that provoked it... that is, if the MiddleButtonUp event provoked the OnClick, the OnClick will only get MiddleButton.

== Chrome search title ==
  +
  +
Congrats on the move! I wanted to report an error I noticed earlier searching the site via the Google Chrome omnibar. Quick recap: Chrome recognizes searches on a site, and thenceforth when it sees you typing the url it will offer you the ability to press tab and enter keywords to search using the site's search functionality. When you do press tab, Chrome places an icon on the left side of the omnibar that says "Search [site name]:". ''When I searched Wowpedia for the first time, [site name] is still "WoWWiki" according to Chrome.'' I don't know where it pulls this name from, but apparently it didn't get changed over. Threw me for a loop for a second. I'm aware you can change this name manually, which I've done, but obviously the default should be fixed.
  +
  +
TLDR: The Chrome omnibar search functionality still calls Wowpedia "WoWWiki".
  +
  +
...and grr, it looks like I'm unable to repro this; when I delete the search from Chrome and make it re-generate it, "wowpedia.org" is displayed now. Still could be because of my edit though, so I guess I'll let you guys take a look at it just to be sure. Perhaps you fixed it already. Hiya! Just randomly trawling around the new site (love it, btw), and came across a reference to Wikia's ToU (and a broken link, to boot). Specifically, in the [[http://www.wowpedia.org/Wowpedia:DNP_policy#Other_prohibitions_enforced_by_this_policy DNP Policy]] article. I'm not sure where that link really should point, and it's an important enough part of the policies that I really ''don't'' want to get it wrong. I believe the Vector skin would automatically put nearly all of it in nested form. With open/close arrows. I am curious if that is true. If that is true, then if things don't work out at Wikia I may move my wiki to a wiki farm that has the Vector skin. I don't know how long it will be though, before the MediaWiki-based wiki farms upgrade to version 1.16 of MediaWiki.   +
  +
Good day Pcj, I would ask you to reconsider your recent ban of Sannse. While I'm aware that it is in response to events at WoWWiki, I would suggest that we should not allow ourselves to stoop to their level. Let Wikia's foolish actions expose themselves for who they are, and let the community judge with its choice of where to go. We don't need to do anything to help them shoot themsleves in the foot. They (Wikia) do a good job of that on their own these days. For your consideration, [[User:Ddcorkum|Ddcorkum]] ([[User talk:Ddcorkum|talk]]) 02:25, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

==A question about one of your latest templates==
  +
Hello, I found this template today: {{t|Faction switch}}. It's been a time since I've wanted to make my own template with that "switch window" feature, but only a few wikis used it, and it was a mess of a code. It's the first time I see it at WoWPedia, and it seems easier than I originally expected.
  +
  +
Would you mind explaining (shortly) how it works, or linking some tutorial? (I'm not sure how this functionality is called, so it's hard to find anything around it)
  +
  +
My main objective is to apply it to {{t|Bookfooter}}, allowing you to see the different sections without having to open new articles. If it works, I could try making something similar for {{t|Dungeons}} (currently being discussed as to be split or not).

::May I ask that you explain your reasoning a bit? I would argue that they are the exact same type of breakdown, being one of the only four types of guilds I've ever heard of in four years of playing, and seeing the term used exactly the same as the three categories of guilds we currently have when guilds recruit. [[User:Hooper|Hooper]] ([[User talk:Hooper|talk]]) 17:19, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

  +
::::Casual is exactly what the term means. To place one of the other terms would imply that a guild actively pursues to be that type, like PvE, PvP, and RP guilds do - which is why they use those terms when advertising. A casual guild may do both but is not actively pursuing to do them or defining their entire guild structure around one or the other. Its not a big deal, I just don't understand why it wouldn't be given the same treatment. [[User:Hooper|Hooper]] ([[User talk:Hooper|talk]]) 17:27, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Looks like you changed all the old wowarmory.com links to use the new battle.net URL's. There's just one problem. In the URL the realm names and character names need to be lower cased; otherwise, you get a big "character not found" error page. Edit: Or not, it appears to be something else. Edit again: Oh, it's a dash rather than a plus for a space in realm's name. —[[User:Egingell|<span class="ajaxttlink">EGingell</span>]][[User_talk:Egingell|T]][[Special:Contributions/Egingell|C]] [http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/cenarion-circle/treader/ Treader of Cenarion Circle] 21:51, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

The other day I was having a look at my characters on battle.net. Hi, I've been using the Blizzard Armory to read up on items and for some things (maybe all), it has a link to Wowpedia (nice!). However, when I clicked on the Wowpedia link for "Design: Delicate Chimera's Eye", it gave me a page that said it had been deleted moved (by you?) with this comment "Mass deletion of pages added by Cannibaleyez".

I had some code that was setup on a wikia wiki with someone else's assistance and moving it to a different wiki again SEEMS to be ok, but it doesn't work (I also think it might be a quirk of the Vector skin). The Wiki is [http://telarapedia.com the RIFT Wiki] and I currently have the .js in my user pages. I do not have ability to grant you admin rights or similar but feel free to edit my User Pages so that it should at least appear right to you. Item pages will be using the [http://telarapedia.com/wiki/Template:Item Template:Item] but I need to rework this a bit to be more cleaner still, additionally I intend to use [http://telarapedia.com/wiki/Template:ilink Template:ilink] for use on all the other pages.

Hey PCJ, the [[Alliance-Horde War]] article is constantly changed to include Malfurion as an Alliance commander, while he actually doesn't take part in the conflict similar to [[Lady Liadrin]], [[Hamuul Runetotem]], [[Varok Saurfang]] or even [[Thrall]] who are not listed. Could you please visit [[Talk:Alliance–Horde War#Malfurion is not an Alliance commander|Talk:Alliance–Horde War]] and discuss. I really think he doesn't fit there, as he is more neutral as leader of Cenarion Circle (just like the 4 Horde commanders who simply do not take part in the war eventhough they're in the Horde). Hey, I am an admin on a wiki and was looking for an extension for tabbed content, but they all.. well they stink. I did, however, take notice of the tabs you guys use on the portal pages ( [[Template:Wwp]] ) and was wondering if you could point me to the .js and such to get those to work? I've managed to piece together the .css needed for them, and have some of the .js from [[MediaWiki:Common.js]] regarding tab switching and what I assume is also part of it called createPageInCategory() as it also makes calls to ptabs. Any help would be appreciated, as those are the best implementation of tabs I have seen. Transclusion as well as direct linking = win. --[[User:Zitek|Zitek]] ([[User talk:Zitek|talk]]) 03:59, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

::I guess whatever is needed. I've been working for the past two weeks creating a dark vector skin which oddly enough I see ya'll have done yourselves (though I've opted for a red base instead of grey/yellow due to the theme of the wiki content). The main issue I am running into with the tabs is the creation and display tag not working when the tabs are clicked. That is, it is not creating the divs with the content loaded into them nor does clicking the tabs do anything but take you directly to the portals themselves. The #ifeq for ptab1-5 (not the 7 used for your portals) at the bottom of the tab template tries to load the portals as templates, and not transclusions. I'm from [http://lotro-wiki.com lotro-wiki.com] and we are currently working [http://test.fs.lmu.de/testwiki/index.php/User:EoD/pcj.js to implement] your nice popup script, with good success so far. But I have [http://test.fs.lmu.de/testwiki/index.php?title=User:EoD/pcj.js&curid=112&diff=920&oldid=919 one change], I wanted to propose to you. Why do you restrict your script to div-tags only? If you don't restrict it to divs-only, you can do things like the [http://test.fs.lmu.de/testwiki/index.php/Sandbox Fruit Roll Recipe popup].<br />
  +
And what do the variable ''tfb'' mean? We were discussing about the name a lot, but we haven't figured it out yet :) --[http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/User:EoD EoD] ([http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/User_talk:EoD talk]) 01:17, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
  +
:Restricting to a particular tag is a CPU/memory optimization (if you're doing any coding in jQuery at all, please read http://hungred.com/useful-information/jquery-optimization-tips-and-tricks/ ). If you don't restrict it, the JavaScript parser has to search through all elements for the particular class (for browsers that don't support that feature of HTML5). I don't see anything on your demo page that couldn't be done with DIVs. It's been forever since I named the variable, but if I recall correctly it means "tooltip, floating box" or something like that (I didn't expect people trying to read between the lines). --{{User:Pcj/sig}} 01:29, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

::Thanks to your help yesterday, I found out what caused the problem with my DIVs not being displayed correctly. They have been displayed fine on Firefox, but neither on Chrome nor on IE. I had to [http://test.fs.lmu.de/testwiki/index.php?title=User%3AEoD%2Fpcj.js&action=historysubmit&diff=1001&oldid=999 change the position value] in order to align the parent div horizontal not vertical. Is this fix only required because of my faulty usage of this popup? We don't usena "stealth" info box on our pages which is displayed on the popup, we just copy parts of the content of the visible wiki pages and put them in the popup. --[http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/User:EoD EoD] ([http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/User_talk:EoD talk]) 18:21, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
  +
:::Not sure why you had to do that since I didn't see the faulty behavior before-hand. --{{User:Pcj/sig}} 18:25, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
  +
::::If you use something like firebug or the chrome debugger, you can see how the layout of the div is aligned, by hovering with the mouse over the div tag. Without that change, it's vertically aligned. And if you add "z-index: 10" to style, you also fix the problem that the popup is behind the edit/view buttons at the top :) --[http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/User:EoD EoD] ([http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/User_talk:EoD talk]) 19:19, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

I’m continuing my research (on WoWWiki and WoWPedia) this summer and hope to interview several of the core contributors about their experiences. Would you be available for an interview at some point this summer?
  +
  +
I also wanted to share an article of mine about WoWWiki that was recently published; you can find it linked to from my user page (happy to send you pdf, if you like). For the most part it talks about the writing processes of the community and how members work well together because of shared attitudes and beliefs about writing on a wiki. If you have any questions or feedback, I’d love to hear it.

When is it okay to copy a source verbatim from Blizzard? We have things like [[History of Warcraft]] sections and in-game quotes. WrathOfDeathfrost's Bestiary articles were okay per [[User_talk:Coobra#The_Burning_Crusade_Bestiary.3F|Coobra's talk page]], but Ashbear160's "Troll Compendium" and "Encyclopedia - Naga" ‎were not per your deletions. :Blizzard's license permits use of things from their website and games. Re-publication of books and printed material is not OK. We should try avoiding duplication of the website as much as possible, though some use of its content is fine. == Adding Tool-tips to my wiki ==

Hello Pcj
  +
  +
I am a Bureaucrat on the <span class=plainlinks>[http://ikariam.wikia.com Ikariam]</span> wiki, and I would like to implement 2 of your tool-tip functions on my wiki and have no idea what portions of the [[MediaWiki:Common.js]] file i need to use, I have in the past tried to copy several sections and reloaded the browser to have the changes take effect and nothing ever worked. The 2 tool-tip functions I would like to have are:
  +
# The {{t|Quicktooltip}} option, for a better Tool-tip display than the normal <nowiki><span title="blah blah blah"> text </span></nowiki> option.
  +
# The {{t|Ajaxsub}} option, because I hate the wikia <nowiki><tabview> ... </tabview></nowiki> display.

I can make you an admin, in order to implement whatever changes you need on the wiki.

I can request the '''Tabview''' function be turned off if that would make the '''Ajaxsub''' template work - but I was never able to get any part such as the '''Quicktooltip''' to work either. Revision as of 14:22, 29 June 2011

This is Pcj's talk page, where you can leave messages and comments for Pcj.

Overhaul of Patch_mirrors page

Blizzard is finally offering REAL patch files to 4.01.13164 & 4.0.1.13205, as evident by this page (Atomicgamer for instance offers those files too): http://games.on.net/filelist.php?app=178&menu=1

I believe it's time to edit the page so we can list patches for each region again, as before, not just those MPG & TFIL files.

Existence WoWWiki

How long will WoWWiki be online yet? I may want to copy/paste articles from there when the articles there are more recent than those that have already been copied to here. Hans Kamp (talk) 19:10, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Wikia will maintain WoWWiki indefinitely. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:11, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Okay, then I won't have to rush the editing of the articles. :) Hans Kamp (talk) 19:17, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

An offer of service

Now that we have made the transition - and I hope that Blizzard does too - I offer what service I can provide...such as it is. :) --Joshmaul (talk) 19:14, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Um, thanks? Just change WoWWiki to Wowpedia where it makes sense to, as well as any other outdated stuff. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:16, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Has there been a move to change the site on Blizzard's fansite listing? --Joshmaul (talk) 19:20, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
We're working on it. Kaydeethree is going to talk to them at Blizzcon. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:24, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Edit Count Display and Quantity Errors

Just happened to notice that the edit count is not showing on user pages and there is a significant discrepancy between the old and the new. Past that, grats on the move and I again think it is for the better in the long term. Ariule (talk)

Yeah, we're aware of the problem. Unfortunately, I don't think there's much that can be done. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:06, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
If there is nothing to be done, then that is the way it shall be. Not a problem at all, just wanted it to be on the "aware" list. Ariule (talk)
Did the edit counts get completely reset as it appears from this side? Ariule (talk)
They're reset, but obviously they can be re-figured from counting your contributions. Which is a big chore for as many users as we have. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 01:18, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Again, not a problem, It was fun watching the counter click and making it the 1k club was cool and all that. Perhaps a "Feat of Strength Achievement" seal and new seals for the new edit clubs. Just a thought. Ariule (talk)

On Name Changes...

Don't mean to be rude or anything, but if it's not too much trouble, could I maybe get my username changed to Teth? Thanks. -- Inv staff 81 Sebreth (T.C) 02:00, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Done. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 02:01, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Huh. I thought it'd be more of a bother than that. Thanks a ton, bro. -- Inv staff 81 Teth (T.C) 02:10, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Rename

Now that you're here, do you want a name change? You don't need the WoWWiki- prefix anymore. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 04:03, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Yes, please. Suzaku will suffice. WoWWiki-Suzaku (talk) 04:08, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Chrome search title

Congrats on the move! I wanted to report an error I noticed earlier searching the site via the Google Chrome omnibar. Quick recap: Chrome recognizes searches on a site, and thenceforth when it sees you typing the url it will offer you the ability to press tab and enter keywords to search using the site's search functionality. When you do press tab, Chrome places an icon on the left side of the omnibar that says "Search [site name]:". When I searched Wowpedia for the first time, [site name] is still "WoWWiki" according to Chrome. I don't know where it pulls this name from, but apparently it didn't get changed over. Threw me for a loop for a second. I'm aware you can change this name manually, which I've done, but obviously the default should be fixed.

TLDR: The Chrome omnibar search functionality still calls Wowpedia "WoWWiki".

...and grr, it looks like I'm unable to repro this; when I delete the search from Chrome and make it re-generate it, "wowpedia.org" is displayed now. Still could be because of my edit though, so I guess I'll let you guys take a look at it just to be sure. Perhaps you fixed it already. - Jerodast (talk) 08:09, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Sidebar & Other Graphical Improvements

Hi Pcj,
Congrats on the move and a new shiny Vector skin.
If you are wondering how to have a 100% customisable sidebar with minimal fuss, Aionopedia uses an extensions named CustomNavBlocks or sumthing like that.
Also for the edit article box that in typing this in, you may want to consider using the UsabilityInitiative until they have a easily plug-in for CKEditor.
If you want sum help with customising the Vector skin i know it very well and more than help you out. Aionopedia Bohtauri (talk) 13:44, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Wikia reference in DNP policy

Hiya! Just randomly trawling around the new site (love it, btw), and came across a reference to Wikia's ToU (and a broken link, to boot). Specifically, in the [DNP Policy] article. I'm not sure where that link really should point, and it's an important enough part of the policies that I really don't want to get it wrong. So, the next best option seems to be "alert an admin". Well, consider yourself alerted.  :) --PaxArcana (talk) 04:57, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

e-mail validation not working

Hey there, since you "pulled" me over, I thought I'd make it your problem :p
Taking over my account here worked fine, except setting my e-mail address seems to cause some troubles => I don't receive the validation e-mail. Now I don't know whether gmail blocks it or wowpedia does not send it, but I just checked the spam to be sure. So maybe there's a problem with the mailserver setup? -watchouT 02:25, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Nested sidebar site navigation

Please see MediaWiki talk:Sidebar. --Timeshifter (talk) 09:08, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

http://www.wowwiki.com/MediaWiki:Monaco-sidebar has been archived here:
I think MediaWiki:Sidebar here could be opened in edit mode, and some or all of the old Monaco site navigation could be added to the bottom. I believe version 1.16 is the first non-beta version with the Vector skin as the default skin. --Timeshifter (talk) 22:55, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Item template is causing infinite loop

I tried to use that template in Patch_4.0.3_(undocumented_changes) but why does it cause an infinite loop? In User:Hans_Kamp/Test and here it doesn't: Inv misc flower 02 [Peacebloom]. Please try to fix it. Then I will see what changes you made to prevent the loop. Hans Kamp (talk) 06:34, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

This was caused because of the missing of the tooltip of Justice point. The tooltip is placed at the left. That needs yet to be fixed. I wonder how you will fix it, because copying the text of the article to a new one places the tooltip to the left for reasons, not known by me. Hans Kamp (talk) 07:13, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
Fixed it myself. The name parameter of {{tooltip}} must be exactly the same (case sensitive) as the article name. Hans Kamp (talk) 07:50, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Banning Sannse

Good day Pcj, I would ask you to reconsider your recent ban of Sannse. While I'm aware that it is in response to events at WoWWiki, I would suggest that we should not allow ourselves to stoop to their level. Let Wikia's foolish actions expose themselves for who they are, and let the community judge with its choice of where to go. We don't need to do anything to help them shoot themsleves in the foot. They (Wikia) do a good job of that on their own these days. For your consideration, Ddcorkum (talk) 02:25, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

See this edit for the reason. --k_d3 02:27, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Seen -- I guessed it was in relation to that, but admittedly when I read Sannse' comment I don't understand what the "problem" is exactly. Is it that contributions were copied over? Ddcorkum (talk) 02:29, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
If you could figure out what Sannse's actually saying I'd award you an internet or two. --k_d3 02:34, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
"This problem" = Sannse being on Wowpedia? Sannse editing Wowpedia while being associated with Sannse (as opposed to a fresh sockpuppet)? Wowpedia as a whole? I want an internet... Edit: Based on kd3's comment/hint, does Sannse think that we would use the copied account for slander?--SWM2448 03:33, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

The item name in the tooltip has to match the name of the page, or you have to use the disambigpage parameter. See {{tooltip}} for more details. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:24, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Faction split quest pages

Noticed your edits of the Elemental Unrest Phase 4 quest pages, looks like WoWWiki never had that sort of nifty faction integration. Deepred (talk) 01:05, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

A question about one of your latest templates

Hello, I found this template today: {{Faction switch}}. It's been a time since I've wanted to make my own template with that "switch window" feature, but only a few wikis used it, and it was a mess of a code. It's the first time I see it at WoWPedia, and it seems easier than I originally expected.

Would you mind explaining (shortly) how it works, or linking some tutorial? (I'm not sure how this functionality is called, so it's hard to find anything around it)

My main objective is to apply it to {{Bookfooter}}, allowing you to see the different sections without having to open new articles. If it works, I could try making something similar for {{Dungeons}} (currently being discussed as to be split or not).

Hope you can lend me a hand. Thanks from advance :P.--Lon-ami (talk) 13:06, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Category Deletion

I noticed you deleted Category:Casual guilds, however we currently have both Category:PvP guilds and Category:PvE guilds. If we're willing to have guild pages broken down in that manner, why would Casual or RP guilds not have the same treatment? Hooper (talk) 17:14, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

RP guilds do receive the same treatment, casual guilds are not the same type of breakdown. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 17:16, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
May I ask that you explain your reasoning a bit? I would argue that they are the exact same type of breakdown, being one of the only four types of guilds I've ever heard of in four years of playing, and seeing the term used exactly the same as the three categories of guilds we currently have when guilds recruit. Hooper (talk) 17:19, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
So what do you think of when you say "casual"? You do both PvE and PvP - maybe a little RP? Then put all the categories on there. I'm not seeing the issue. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 17:20, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Casual is exactly what the term means. Hooper (talk) 17:27, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Obsolte quests protocol

Could you help me find the policies governing pages covering now obsolete questlines, NPCs, etc.? Quick follow-up: if we add the {{Removedfromgame}} template, should we remove the other categories? I would think that the "Quests in Feralas" category, for example, should only contain current quests, but what's the policy? -- Metaneira (talk) 21:07, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
And one more question -- I'm assuming that some categories are added from templates (e.g., Quest:Natural Materials). Do we have an obsolete questbox template to use that won't populate categories? Or do I just remove the questbox? (Sorry for bugging you so much!) -- Metaneira (talk) 21:38, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Recent Armory link changes

Looks like you changed all the old wowarmory.com links to use the new battle.net URL's. There's just one problem. In the URL the realm names and character names need to be lower cased; otherwise, you get a big "character not found" error page. Edit: Or not, it appears to be something else. Edit again: Oh, it's a dash rather than a plus for a space in realm's name. —EGingellTC Treader of Cenarion Circle 21:51, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Meh, it wasn't working anyway. I tried a couple of links and they seemed to work, though. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 21:53, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Spaces are converted to "-" and apostrophes are stripped (Anub'arak => Anubarak and Cenarion Circle => Cenarion-Circle); however, the URL is not case-sensitive. It's quite dumb, really. —EGingellTC Treader of Cenarion Circle 22:23, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Support from Blizzard?

The other day I was having a look at my characters on battle.net. Hovering over a profession will display two external links for that profession, to Wowhead and Wowpedia (which I guess you know anyway...). I know wowhead is pretty popular, but it surprised me they had included Wowpedia. I thought Blizzard were hesitant when it came to supporting Wowpedia, which is why Wowpedia is hosted by Curse instead. Have they mentioned anything else concerning any cooperation, or did it just appear out of the blue? WrathOfDeathfrost (talk) 12:41, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

I understand this, but the only additions I have to make are my videos. Which are valid and helpful. I'm positive if my name were Totalbiscuit this would not be an issue.Mojomaker (talk) 00:44, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Blizzard Armory links to deleted pages on Wowpedia

Hi, I've been using the Blizzard Armory to read up on items and for some things (maybe all), it has a link to Wowpedia (nice!). However, when I clicked on the Wowpedia link for "Design: Delicate Chimera's Eye", it gave me a page that said it had been deleted moved (by you?) with this comment "Mass deletion of pages added by Cannibaleyez".

I don't know why the page was deleted, but is there any intent to make sure that links from Blizzard go to actual pages (even if they're just stubs)?

Tulonsae (talk) 11:06, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Page was deleted, cause Cannibaleyez created a bunch of pages with things like "Design: Delicate Chimera's Eye" and that's it... just a repeat of what the article name was. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 05:12, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello PCJ. User FunOnABun recently changed all the Elemental Lords articles, swapping their images and I believe their character NPCbox shouldn't be using those certian images since they are outdated and not very accurate. Therazane was already reverted by someone but Al'akir and Ragnaros are using the artwork from Thammer and not so beautiful art from Shadows and Lights in their char box when they were using respectivly - in-game Cata screenshot and TCG artwork. Please decide whether should they be reverted or not. Thanks in advance. IconSmall BloodElf2 Male Encaitar (DiscussionDeeds) 12:38, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Being new to WoWpedia, making sure not to step on toes.

Hi Pcj, I recently spent a few hours cleaning up/re-organising the Useful Macros page for Death Knights. I was just making sure that I set it up the way you'd envisioned the site.

That specific area was, and still is a mess. I'll be going through it as I level my DK and can test out the various "old macros" and bring them up to their respective sections.

I've decided to make that page (As well as the Warrior one once I start leveling it again) my "home". Kagrannosh (talk) 10:39, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Pcj, there appears to be some weird issue at http://www.wowpedia.org/Useful_macros_for_death_knights#Spam_Macros The fonts for the headers in that sub-section are significantly smaller, and I can't figure out why. Kagrannosh (talk) 13:29, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Be bold. If someone doesn't like it, they can revert it. :) Also, the tiny subheadings are because of the site's CSS. You didn't do anything wrong. If you want them bigger, use <h1-6> tags instead of "======". <h6> is the one "======" becomes. —EGingellTC Treader of Cenarion Circle 17:54, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Tooltips on another Wiki?

Hi Pcj, I was wondering if you could assist in setting up your Tooltips on another Wiki?

I had some code that was setup on a wikia wiki with someone else's assistance and moving it to a different wiki again SEEMS to be ok, but it doesn't work (I also think it might be a quirk of the Vector skin). The Wiki is the RIFT Wiki and I currently have the .js in my user pages. in vector.js, tooltips.js, TooltipsCore.js & TooltipsItem.js. I do not have ability to grant you admin rights or similar but feel free to edit my User Pages so that it should at least appear right to you. Item pages will be using the Template:Item but I need to rework this a bit to be more cleaner still, additionally I intend to use Template:ilink for use on all the other pages.

Your opinion is desired

Hey PCJ, the Alliance-Horde War article is constantly changed to include Malfurion as an Alliance commander, while he actually doesn't take part in the conflict similar to Lady Liadrin, Hamuul Runetotem, Varok Saurfang or even Thrall who are not listed. Could you please visit Talk:Alliance–Horde War and discuss. I really think he doesn't fit there, as he is more neutral as leader of Cenarion Circle (just like the 4 Horde commanders who simply do not take part in the war eventhough they're in the Horde). JS Tabs

Hey, I am an admin on a wiki and was looking for an extension for tabbed content, but they all.. well they stink. I did, however, take notice of the tabs you guys use on the portal pages ( Template:Wwp ) and was wondering if you could point me to the .js and such to get those to work? I've managed to piece together the .css needed for them, and have some of the .js from MediaWiki:Common.js regarding tab switching and what I assume is also part of it called createPageInCategory() as it also makes calls to ptabs. Any help would be appreciated, as those are the best implementation of tabs I have seen. Transclusion as well as direct linking = win. --Zitek (talk) 03:59, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Tabs are currently pretty much the most complex thing JS-wise on the wiki. What you need depends on how much of Wowpedia's functionality you want. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 04:06, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
I guess whatever is needed. Appending : before them just creats loops.--Zitek (talk) 04:38, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
You're probably missing the code calling it in the jQuery document.ready function. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 04:48, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

And I got it working. Pointing me at jQuery got me to start testing out other functions, and it turns out jQuery wasn't loading at all for custom JS. A quick change to call jquery.js and it started working immediately. Thanks!--Zitek (talk) 10:37, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Removed gems

Why are these getting turned into redirects? Shouldn't they be kept and marked with removedfromgame tags instead? -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 21:38, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Gems which were already cut weren't removed, they were changed into the new versions. {{Removedfromgame}} is more for stuff that may still exist on characters but just no longer drops. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 21:40, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

There's nothing which replaces it, so there's no need to outright delete them as part of the historical record. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 21:46, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

itemtooltip

Hey!
I'm from lotro-wiki.com and we are currently working to implement your nice popup script, with good success so far. But I have one change, I wanted to propose to you. Why do you restrict your script to div-tags only? If you don't restrict it to divs-only, you can do things like the Fruit Roll Recipe popup.
And what do the variable tfb mean? We were discussing about the name a lot, but we haven't figured it out yet :) --EoD (talk) 01:17, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Restricting to a particular tag is a CPU/memory optimization (if you're doing any coding in jQuery at all, please read http://hungred.com/useful-information/jquery-optimization-tips-and-tricks/ ). --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 01:29, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
Thanks to your help yesterday, I found out what caused the problem with my DIVs not being displayed correctly. They have been displayed fine on Firefox, but neither on Chrome nor on IE. I had to change the position value in order to align the parent div horizontal not vertical. Is this fix only required because of my faulty usage of this popup? We don't usena "stealth" info box on our pages which is displayed on the popup, we just copy parts of the content of the visible wiki pages and put them in the popup. --EoD (talk) 18:21, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
Not sure why you had to do that since I didn't see the faulty behavior before-hand. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 18:25, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
If you use something like firebug or the chrome debugger, you can see how the layout of the div is aligned, by hovering with the mouse over the div tag. Without that change, it's vertically aligned. And if you add "z-index: 10" to style, you also fix the problem that the popup is behind the edit/view buttons at the top :) --EoD (talk) 19:19, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
Oh, you probably didn't copy over the CSS styling that is applied by the class. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:21, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, you were right. I forgot to copy the right css class which contained the z-index value. Thanks again! I also fixed a y alignment problem with large popups which were outside of the browser window (only the first half of this diff of course). Feel free to copy it! --EoD (talk) 19:51, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi Pcj,

I’m continuing my research (on WoWWiki and WoWPedia) this summer and hope to interview several of the core contributors about their experiences. Would you be available for an interview at some point this summer?

I also wanted to share an article of mine about WoWWiki that was recently published; you can find it linked to from my user page (happy to send you pdf, if you like). For the most part it talks about the writing processes of the community and how members work well together because of shared attitudes and beliefs about writing on a wiki. If you have any questions or feedback, I’d love to hear it.

Thanks for considering this. If you're interested in participating, you can contact me here via email <tinyurl [dot] com/5ug7gqq>. Dakhma (talk) 15:02, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

Local copies of removed sources

When is it okay to copy a source verbatim from Blizzard? We have things like History of Warcraft sections and in-game quotes. WrathOfDeathfrost's Bestiary articles were okay per Coobra's talk page, but Ashbear160's "Troll Compendium" and "Encyclopedia - Naga" ‎were not per your deletions. Are our standards codified completely on Wowpedia:Copyright policy?--SWM2448 19:02, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Blizzard's license permits use of things from their website and games. Re-publication of books and printed material is not OK. We should try avoiding duplication of the website as much as possible, though some use of its content is fine. There is a bit of a grey area but I feel copying and pasting whole articles is stretching it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:10, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
I want to use common sense, but that never works. How would you define a "whole article" in regards to too much?--SWM2448 19:19, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Actually i didn't make the troll compendium, i just removed a extra = i found in the middle, however my interpretation of that blizzard would allow is the pages that are not on the official website anymore, and can only be found by using the wayback machine.
I also suggest for a dmin to go ask on wow story forums, maybe blizzard would give a concrete answer, and it doesn't hurt to ask.--Ashbear160 (talk) 19:31, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Making Wowpedia articles which are only copy and pastes from Blizzard content is not necessary and pushing fair use. Incorporating Blizzard content into an original Wowpedia article is usually fine. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:34, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
But we kinda need those sources, that's why they were listed as source-articles, because that information has been deleted by blizzard, and sourcing to nowhere is kinda of a non-source, someone should ask blizzard anyway.
Currently i have these 5 sources that are dead links that i would like to transcribe.
Can i do any of them?--Ashbear160 (talk) 19:39, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Some still exist on the European site, like http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/story/trolls/ and http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/encyclopedia/487.xml --SWM2448 19:43, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Why exactly do we need to keep those sources? Nothing we have cites them, as far as I can tell. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:46, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
The second link is dead.
PCJ, when i was making the Old Gods' forces article, one of the things i need to do was finding sources, those five i took from other articles to use as sources, i did it rather blindly because those links where dead, so i had no way to confirm the information given as a source, so besides the article that i made there are others that do indeed use these sources.--Ashbear160 (talk) 19:51, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Well the naga article seems to work the same, so i'll replace that link on my article(i won't do for other articles unless i find them) can't be said of the other four links(at least from what i tried), so how is it?, if it's dead can we transcribe?--Ashbear160 (talk) 20:05, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
It is my opinion that linking to the Wayback Machine's archived version of the article on a case-by-case basis would be easier to maintain and shows context better. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:08, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Transcribing all that was lost in the transition to the new Battle.net site would be a massive undertaking that would require carefully planned organization and context (I'm looking at you, Ashbear's proposed page names), mirroring the way Blizzard set it up.--SWM2448 20:11, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Not everything, just what we need, and names can be easily changed.--Ashbear160 (talk) 21:03, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
What do you mean by "we" and "need"? Why pick and choose? A better plan is needed.--SWM2448 21:23, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
By we need i mean links that we use as source like the Ulduar Bosstiary, anyway let's talk in this forums it's more convenient--Ashbear160 (talk) 22:03, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Adding Tool-tips to my wiki

Hello Pcj

I am a Bureaucrat on the Ikariam wiki, and I would like to implement 2 of your tool-tip functions on my wiki and have no idea what portions of the MediaWiki:Common.js file i need to use, I have in the past tried to copy several sections and reloaded the browser to have the changes take effect and nothing ever worked. The 2 tool-tip functions I would like to have are:

  1. The {{Quicktooltip}} option, for a better Tool-tip display than the normal <span title="blah blah blah"> text </span> option.
  2. The {{Ajaxsub}} option, because I hate the wikia <tabview> ... </tabview> display.

I can make you an admin, in order to implement whatever changes you need on the wiki.

Thanks,

Tabs aren't implemented with Ajaxsub, that may be your problem. I'm not sure I want the hassle of working on a Wikia wiki at the moment - I'll think about it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 15:45, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

I can request the Tabview function be turned off if that would make the Ajaxsub template work - but I was never able to get any part such as the Quicktooltip to work either. I understand your reluctance to work on a Wikia wiki from what I gleamed on some of the talk pages on the former WoWWiki pages. If you decide to take it on, just let me know. -- Jrooksjr (talk) 14:22, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
