“Poor Old Blanchy! Such a tired beast after all the work we put her through.”

Verna Furlbrow[1]

Blanchy (known in her youth as Young Blanchy, in adulthood as Old Blanchy, and in the afterlife as Dead Blanchy) was the horse of Theodore and Verna Furlbrow in Westfall. She was known for being an affectionate and well-behaved horse with excellent disposition and appetite.[2] She was killed by the Defias Brotherhood after the Cataclysm, and in death she became a sinrunner of Revendreth.

Biography[]

The Burning Crusade[]

Young Blanchy originally lived at Tarren Mill in the Hillsbrad Foothills. She was jealous of the attention the Tarren Mill Horsehand gave to her fellow horse Bessy, but the horsehand assured Blanchy that she would soon be transported to Southshore and set out on a journey across the sea to join his brother's farm in Westfall.

Old Blanchy

Old Blanchy as she appeared when alive (old model).

Old Blanchy could be found near the Jansen Stead in Westfall with her owners, Theodore and Verna Furlbrow. She was tired, and Verna asked passersby to bring the horse some oats from the fields. As a reward, the strangers were gifted Blanchy's blanket and feed pouch.[1]

Wrath of the Lich King[]

Wrath-Logo-Small This section concerns content related to Wrath of the Lich King.

Blanchy accompanied the Westfall Brigade to Northrend and can be found at the Westfall Brigade Encampment in the Grizzly Hills, tended to by Gryan Stoutmantle's squires Walter and Percy. Walter occasionally goes looking around the camp for oats to feed the hungry horse, but with little luck.

Cataclysm[]

Cataclysm This section concerns content related to Cataclysm.

Old Blanchy apparently returned to Westfall, but after the Cataclysm, she and the Furlbrows were murdered by some thugs on the orders of Vanessa VanCleef.[3] The double homicide and single equicide[4][5] is the impetus for bringing heroes to Westfall in A [5-30] Hero's Call: Westfall! and serves as the starting point of the Westfall storyline.

Sinrunner HS

Dead Blanchy in Hearthstone.

Despite her benevolent appearance, Blanchy apparently committed secret evils in life, for after her death her soul was condemned to Revendreth and became a sinrunner.[2]

Now known as "Dead Blanchy", she occasionally spawns at the northern end of the Endmire and begins running around the subzone at very high speed. If a player steps in front of her, she will immediately stop and become interactable, but will despawn after 5 minutes. While Dead Blanchy is standing still, players can give her different special items, but they can only offer one item per day (though it does not need to be consecutive days). In the order they can be given, the items are 8 Inv misc food wheat 02 [Handful of Oats], Inv misc comb 02 [Grooming Brush], 4 Spell nature swiftness [Sturdy Horseshoe], Inv drink 19 [Bucket of Clean Water], Inv tailoring 70 saddleblanket [Comfortable Saddle Blanket], and 3 Inv misc food 20 [Dredhollow Apple]. After giving her all of the items, the player is rewarded with the Inv horse3saddle001 evil [Blanchy's Reins] mount.

Quotes[]

Old Hillsbrad Foothills[]

Bc icon This section concerns content related to The Burning Crusade.

The Tarren Mill Horsehand will periodically enter the stable south of Tarren Mill in Old Hillsbrad Foothills and walk up to one of the Tarren Mill Horses.

Tarren Mill Horsehand says: Here, Bessy, enjoy this apple while I get you ready.
Tarren Mill Horsehand feeds Bessy the bright red apple.
Young Blanchy stomps her foot jealously.

In response, the horsehand tells Blanchy one of the following:

  • Aww, Blanchy, don't worry, my brother in Westfall will take good care of you. I hear he's got a beautiful farm with lots of space for you to roam.
  • Now, now, Blanchy. Don't be jealous, you'll be going on a big adventure of your own, soon.
  • Whoa, there, Blanchy, you can't be having any apples today. Tomorrow, we'll be taking you down to Southshore, where you'll take a boat way across the seas.

When Thrall enters the stable during the Escape from Durnholde escort event, Young Blanchy becomes startled, alerting his presence to Tarren Mill guards outside the stable.

Tarren Mill Lookout says: I thought I saw something go into the barn.
Tarren Mill Protector says: I didn't see anything.
Young Blanchy whinnies.
Thrall tries to calm the horse down.
Tarren Mill Lookout says: Something riled that horse. Let's go!

Westfall[]

Players on the mount who approach the location of Blanchy's death at the Jansen Stead in Westfall will have the mount despawn from underneath them:

Sinrunner Blanchy screams in anguish and then fades from view.

Notes[]

  • The ship Old Blanchy is named after her.
  • Blanchy was originally categorized as a critter in her Westfall, Grizzly Hills, and Old Hillsbrad appearances, before being changed to a beast.
  • Dead Blanchy is represented by the Sinrunner, a common neutral minion, in the Murder at Castle Nathria expansion for Hearthstone. Although the minion's name is generic, the flavor text expressly identifies it as Blanchy and paraphrases her mount description: Blanchy was said to be an affectionate and well-behaved horse in life. How she ended up in Revendreth? We're too afraid to ask.
  • Chris Metzen, when discussing the Cataclysm changes to Westfall at BlizzCon 2009, jokingly said that "Old Blanchy is core."[6]
