===Cleanup===

{{t|Cleanup|reasons|doc=}}

{{Cleanup|style=width:60%;doc=}}

Add to articles or sections (or images or files) that require editing attention. This will include them in [[:Category:Articles to clean up]].

Please try and add reasons - this will help editors to change what is wrong or add what is not there without having to ask the user who tagged the page.

==== Alliance info needed ====

{{t|Alliance update|reasons|doc=}}

{{Alliance update|style=width:60%;doc=}}

This is a specific type of cleanup request similar to a stub notification, but specifically requesting [[Alliance]]-perspective info updates.

===Merge===

{{T|Merge|target article|doc=}}

{{Merge|doc=}}

Add to articles that should be merged into one article. This will include them in [[:Category:Merge candidates]]. Further elaboration on the articles' discussion pages would be helpful, such as suggesting which name both articles should be listed under.

===Move===

{{T|Move|target article|doc=}}

{{move|doc=}}

Add to articles that should be moved to another name ([[:Category:Move candidates]]), in accordance with the [[WoWWiki:Naming policy|Naming Policy]]. While many moves can be made immediately, if moving will be an involved process (as with a category) or there is debate as to what the article should be called, it is best to receive some feedback first.

=== Outdated ===

* {{t|Outdated|optional_reason}} or the shorthand, {{t|ood|doc=}} (also usable on images)

{{outdated|doc=}}

* {{t|Outdated-section|optional_reason}} for only specific sections. Keep the reason short, if you can.

===Stubs===

When a page has little or no useful information, then it is a [[WoWWIki:Stub|stub]].

{{Stub/Ability|doc=}}

===Icons===

Note that all these icons appear to the left of the text left edge. Use them only in indented sections (e.g. after a ":").

===Category helpers===

* Use {{T|Server_US|realm type|timezone|server}} to easily categorize US servers. (''timezone'' = Eastern, Central, Pacific, etc....) (''server'' = article name minus ''Server:'', helps alphabetize categories)

{{spc}}

* Use {{T|Server_EU|realm type|language|server}} to easily categorize EU servers. (''language'' = English, French, German, etc....) (''server'' = article name minus ''Server:'', helps alphabetize categories)

{{spc}}

* Use {{T|Guild|name|realm|loc|faction=|type}} to easily categorize guilds.

{{spc}}

* Use {{T|correct2category|article type|good-category}} at the top of category pages that shouldn't be used to tell people what category they should be using.

{{spc}}

* Use {{T|bigcat}} at the bottom of very large (nearly or over 200 articles) categories:

{{spc}}

{{Example/Begin}}{{bigcat}}{{Example/End}}

{{spc}}

* Note that <nowiki>{{catredirect|destination category}}</nowiki> is no longer required as of the [[MediaWiki Quirks|MediaWiki 1.7 upgrade]]. You can now use regular <code><nowiki>#redirect [[:Category:destination category]]</nowiki></code> redirects. Old/deprecated categories should never be redirected per the [[WoWWiki:Category policy|category policy]].

===Clear below break before starting===

* You can use {{T|clear}} instead of the HTML tag that clears space below things like images, pictures and tables, so stuff doesn't begin until the bottom of the image, picture or table box.

* You can also use {{T|clear|left}} or {{T|clear|right}} to clear only left or right floats

=== Line spacing ===

* {{T|spc}} adds a moderate space between two paragraphs, or between items in a bullet list. The spacing is about 75% of a regular line height.

=== Columns ===

To easily put content in columns, use {{t|col-begin}}, {{t|col-2}}/{{t|col-3}}/{{t|col-4}}/{{t|col-5}}/{{t|col-6}}/{{t|col-7}}, and {{t|col-end}}.

; For example

<nowiki>

{{col-begin}}

{{col-3}}

First column

{{col-3}}

Second

{{col-3}}

Third

{{col-end}}</nowiki>

; Yields

{{col-begin}}

{{col-3}}

First column

{{col-3}}

Second

{{col-3}}

Third

{{col-end}}

===Disambiguation===

* Use {{t|disambig|doc=}}, if a page has a chance of being confused with a page of a similar name but different content, a [[WoWWiki:Disambiguation|disambiguation page]] may be in order. See that page for more info on creating one and linking to it.

* However, sometimes a disabiguation page is not appropriate, but a short note at the top may still be necessary. {{t|for}} can be useful for this situation.

{{for|the original 40-man raid introduced in [[Patch 1.11]]|Naxxramas (original)}}

=== Tables of Contents ===

Though discouraged (see [[WoWWiki:Manual of Style]]), you can float the table of contents of a page to the right with {{t|tocright}}

===Tabs===

If you want to make a nice looking tab to clearly indicate what to click, like {{discussiontab}}, you can use the following:

* {{T|articletab}} &ndash; {{articletab}}

* {{T|categorytab}} &ndash; {{categorytab}}

* {{T|discussiontab}} &ndash; {{discussiontab}}

* {{T|edittab}} &ndash; {{edittab}}

** {{T|editplustab}} &ndash; {{editplustab}} for adding sections in talk pages

** {{T|plustab}} &ndash; {{plustab}} for adding sections in talk pages

* {{T|projectpagetab}} &ndash; {{projectpagetab}}

* {{T|watchtab}} &ndash; {{watchtab}}

* {{T|specialpagetab}} &ndash; {{specialpagetab}}

* {{T|templatetab}} &ndash; {{templatetab}}

* {{T|unwatchtab}} &ndash; {{unwatchtab}}

* {{T|userpagetab}} &ndash; {{userpagetab}}

* {{T|viewsourcetab}} &ndash; {{viewsourcetab}}

=== Template links ===

Make example template code for templates with a link to them:

*Wikitext: <code>Simple template (i.e. <nowiki>{{t|template}}</nowiki>)</code>

*Output: Simple template (i.e. {{t|template}})

Make example template code for templates (un-italicized parameters) with a link to them:

*Wikitext: <code>Simple template with 1 parameter (i.e. <nowiki><code>&#123;&#123;t2|template|param1&#125;&#125;</code></nowiki>)</code>

*Output: Simple template with 1 parameter (i.e. <code>{{t2|template|param1}}</code>)

===See also===

Add references to other articles using {{T|seealso}}. For example, to add two references to a page, use <nowiki>{{seealso</nowiki><b>|</b><nowiki>Health regeneration</nowiki><b>|</b><nowiki>Mana regeneration}}</nowiki>:

{{seealso|Health regeneration|Mana regeneration}}

For consistency, it's recommended that you add a section at the bottom titled "See also"

===Example, Example/Begin, Example/End===

<code>{{T|Example|small text}}</code> can be used for very small examples, but often you will want to pull in substantial pieces of other pages or templates, in which case you can use <code>{{T|Example/Begin}} LOTS of text, probably multiline {{T|Example/End}}</code>:

{{Example/Begin}}

LOTS of text,

probably

multiline

{{Example/End}}

===Page actions===

* {{T|edit|pagename}} can be used to create a link for editing a page, e.g. <code><nowiki>{{edit|WoWWiki:Templates}}</nowiki></code> creates {{edit|WoWWiki:Templates}}.

* {{T|purge|your text}} creates a link that ''purges'' the cache of a page, i.e. forces a reload of all pulled-in templates. Sensible texts would be e.g. {{purge|purge page cache}}, &nbsp; {{purge|update subpages}}, &nbsp; {{purge|refresh templates}}.

Usage: <code>{{t2|battlepetability||Alpha Strike|Alpha Strike, a flying ability}}</code><br />

Displays: {{battlepetability|Alpha Strike|Alpha Strike, a flying ability}}

==== Powers ====

A power is just any kind of ability or spell used by an [[minion]], [[mob]], [[NPC]], or [[Hunter pet]]. Otherwise it functions just like <code>{{t|ability}}</code> and requires the linked page to have {{t|Infobox ability}} used correctly on it.

:<code>{{t|power|powername|displayname}}</code>

Usage: <code>{{t2|power|Axe Toss|Axe Toss, the Felguard ability}}</code><br />

Displays: {{power|Axe Toss|Axe Toss, the Felguard ability}}

=== Money ===

Multiple ways to do money exist, but only a few are practical, and here they are:

* {{Cost|123|45|67}} <code>{{T|cost|123|45|67}}</code>

* {{Cost|123||67}} <code>{{T|cost|123||67}}</code>

* {{Cost|g=10|s=48|c=32}}<code>{{T|cost|g&#61;10|s&#61;48|c&#61;32}}</code>

The <code>{{t|cost}}</code> template also supports many, many other non-money, non-coin currencies. See the template documentation for details.

=== Battle pets ===

{{mists-section}}

Most databases mix [[battle pet]]s among the NPCs, but you can use this template for external links instead of {{t|Elinks-NPC}}.

;External links

:<code>{{t|elinks-battlepet|id}}</code>

Usage: <code>{{t2|elinks-battlepet|61325}}</code><br />

==== Battle pet family ====

Display the [[battle pet family]] icon and ''optionally'' family name link.

:<code>{{t|battlepet type|familyname|displayname|showfamilyname&#61;}}</code>

Usage:

:<code>{{t2|battlepet type|Aquatic|Aquatic battle pet family}}</code><br />

:<code>{{t2|battlepet type|Aquatic|Aquatic battle pet family|showfamilyname=}}</code><br />

=== Class ===

For showing the fancy class [[crest]]. Used mostly for class specific quest rewards or the like.

* <code>{{t2|ClassCrest|Monk}}</code>

{{ClassCrest|Monk}}

=== Currency ===

Similar to money, there are now many other types of currencies in WoW, where you exchange items ''as a currency'' for another item. For example:

* <code>{{t2|costitem|1|Alterac Valley Mark of Honor}}: {{costitem|1|Alterac Valley Mark of Honor}} </code>

* <code>{{t2|costitem|100|Dalaran Cooking Award}}</code>: {{costitem|100|Dalaran Cooking Award}}

* <code>{{t2|costitem|1|Breastplate of the Wayward Conqueror}}</code>: {{costitem|1|Breastplate of the Wayward Conqueror}}

=== Events ===

Some databases use a shared id for recurring in-game events like [[Hallow's End]].

;External links

:<code>{{t|elinks-event|id}}</code> ''[[Pirate's Day]]''

Usage: <code>{{t2|elinks-event|398}}</code><br />

Displays: {{elinks-event|398}}

=== Guilds ===

This template will link to the [[Battle.net]] guild page at the official site.

;External links

:<code>{{t|Elink-guild|MyGuild|MyServer|US/EU}}</code>

Usage:

:<code>{{t2|Elink-guild|MyGuild|MyServer|EU}}</code>

:<code>{{t2|Elink-guild|MyGuild|MyServer|EU|realmsuffix=Portugues}}</code>

Displays:

:{{Elink-guild|MyGuild|MyServer|EU}}

:{{Elink-guild|MyGuild|MyServer|US}}

:{{Elink-guild|MyGuild|MyServer|EU|realmsuffix=Portugues}}

=== Quests ===

There are two ways to link to quest articles. There is the normal way, because sometimes you just need to mention the quest, which makes use of the template {{t|quest}}, that automatically drops the "Quest:" from the name (used for cleaner code):

:<code><nowiki>{{quest|Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You}}</nowiki></code> as opposed to <code><nowiki>[[Quest:Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You|Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You]]</nowiki></code>

The second way is more detailed, and is usually used in bulleted lists.

:<code>{{t|questlong|faction|questlevel|questname|displayname}}</code>

Usage: <code>{{t2|questlong|Neutral|54|Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You}}</code><br />

Displays: {{questlong|Neutral|54|Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You}}

;External links

:<code>{{t|elinks-quest|id}}</code>

Usage: <code>{{t2|elinks-quest|7504}}</code><br />

Displays: {{elinks-quest|7504}}

==== Quest change ====

If you see a small part of a quest article, a section of a quest article, or a small part or section of an article involved with a quest that you want to mark as significantly changed you can use the following templates (inline and section).

{{T|Questch-inline}}<br />

Displays: {{Questch-inline|doc=}}

{{T|Questch-section}}<br />

Displays: {{Questch-section|doc=}}

=== Footers ===

{{seealso|:Category:Navigation templates}}

These templates take one parameter "class" which should be replaced by the class name; "Mage", "Warrior" etc. This is used to create links back to class-specific pages.

* {{T|Classfooter|class}}

{{Example/Begin}}{{Classfooter|Paladin}}{{Example/End}}

The following templates change the color of the links. In case there is such a concern, note that each link, when moused over, has the underline in the typical link color. For instance, if a link does not exist, the underline is red; if it does exist, the underline is blue.

=== Loot ===

A bit more complicated to use (you have to supply the quality), the {{t|loot}} doesn't work the wiki engine as hard, still supplies tooltips, and works better for items without pages yet ({{t|item}} pulls quality info from the {{t|tooltip}} on the page).

Latest revision as of 00:37, July 24, 2015

There are many, many templates in use in WoWWiki and these are only subset, hopefully representing the most commonly used ones. If you feel that a template belongs on this page, do not hesitate to add it.

Wiki templates provide a means to insert the same content over and over in different (or the same) pages. This saves editors the hassle of duplicating the same text again and again, and also helps ensure consistency. See Help:Template for further information on using and creating templates.

Templates are generally shown with the format required to use the template (i.e. {{Horde Icon}}). Clicking the template name takes you to the template's page, where you can see what it looks like and how it is used.

Accuracy Edit

  • {{accuracy}} displays a banner requesting a fact check

Better name / Conjecture Edit

  • {{bettername}} displays a banner flagging the article as probably needing a new name

Citations needed Edit

Cleanup Edit

{{Cleanup|<reasons>}}

Add to articles or sections (or images or files) that require editing attention. This will include them in Category:Articles to clean up.

Please try and add reasons - this will help editors to change what is wrong or add what is not there without having to ask the user who tagged the page.

Alliance info needed Edit

{{Alliance update|<reasons>}}

This is a specific type of cleanup request similar to a stub notification, but specifically requesting Alliance-perspective info updates.

Horde info needed Edit

{{Horde update|<reasons>}}

This is a specific type of cleanup request similar to a stub notification, but specifically requesting Horde-perspective info updates.

Construction Edit

Deletion templates Edit

{{Delete}}, {{Speedydelete}}, {{Terminate}} etc. are used as part of the article deletion process. See delete, Terminate.

Disputed Edit

Generic Edit

  • {{Generic}} displays a banner noting this page or file has too generic a name and should be renamed.

Merge Edit

{{Merge|<target article>}}

Add to articles that should be merged into one article. This will include them in Category:Merge candidates. Further elaboration on the articles' discussion pages would be helpful, such as suggesting which name both articles should be listed under.

Move Edit

{{Move|<target article>}}

Add to articles that should be moved to another name (Category:Move candidates), in accordance with the Naming Policy. While many moves can be made immediately, if moving will be an involved process (as with a category) or there is debate as to what the article should be called, it is best to receive some feedback first.

Outdated Edit

  • {{Outdated|<optional_reason>}} or the shorthand, {{ood}} (also usable on images)
  • {{Outdated-section|<optional_reason>}} for only specific sections. Keep the reason short, if you can.
  • Icon-time This section concerns content that is out-of-date.

    Removed Edit

    Split Edit

    Add to articles that should have sections split off into separate articles. This will include them in Category:Split candidates. Be sure to clarify on the article's discussion page which sections you think should be moved to a new article, and why.

    Stubs Edit

    When a page has little or no useful information, then it is a stub.

    • Stub for ability pages (includes spells): {{Stub/Ability}}

    And several more:

    Section stubs Edit

    If you want to stub a section for filling in later, use {{sectionstub}} just below the section header.

    Icon-edit-22x22
    Note: This is a generic section stub. You can help expand it by clicking  Edit to the right of the section title.

    Talk pages Edit

    {{Talkheader|analysis=on}} (from {{Talkheader}})

    This template can be added to an article's talk page where discussion about the issue in general is overwhelming editorial concerns regarding the article in particular. See WoWWiki:Talk page guidelines for more info.

    Unused Edit

    Use this on unused files (image, PDF, sound, video, etc.).

    Wikify Edit

  • {{Wikify-section|<optional_reason>}} for only specific sections. Keep the reason short, if you can.
  • Icon-template This section concerns content that needs wikifying.

    General wiki templates Edit

    To edit this section, click here.
    See also: Category:General wiki templates

    Icons Edit

    Note that all these icons appear to the left of the text left edge. Use them only in indented sections (e.g. after a ":").

    Icon-information-22x22{{icon-information}}
    Icon-warning-22x22{{icon-exclamation}}
    Icon-lightbulb{{icon-lightbulb}}
    Icon-shortcut{{icon-shortcut}}

    Category helpers Edit

    • Use {{Server_US|<realm type>|<timezone>|<server>}} to easily categorize US servers. (timezone = Eastern, Central, Pacific, etc....) (server = article name minus Server:, helps alphabetize categories)
    • Use {{Server_EU|<realm type>|<language>|<server>}} to easily categorize EU servers. (language = English, French, German, etc....) (server = article name minus Server:, helps alphabetize categories)
    • Use {{Guild|<name>|<realm>|<loc>|<type>}} to easily categorize guilds.
    • Use {{correct2category|<article type>|<good-category>}} at the top of category pages that shouldn't be used to tell people what category they should be using.
    • Use {{bigcat}} at the bottom of very large (nearly or over 200 articles) categories:
    • Note that {{catredirect|destination category}} is no longer required as of the MediaWiki 1.7 upgrade. You can now use regular #redirect [[:Category:destination category]] redirects. Old/deprecated categories should never be redirected per the category policy.

    Clear below break before starting Edit

    • You can use {{clear}} instead of the HTML tag that clears space below things like images, pictures and tables, so stuff doesn't begin until the bottom of the image, picture or table box.
    • You can also use {{clear|<left>}} or {{clear|<right>}} to clear only left or right floats

    Line spacing Edit

    • {{spc}} adds a moderate space between two paragraphs, or between items in a bullet list. The spacing is about 75% of a regular line height.

    Columns Edit

    To easily put content in columns, use {{col-begin}}, {{col-2}}/{{col-3}}/{{col-4}}/{{col-5}}/{{col-6}}/{{col-7}}, and {{col-end}}.

    For example
    {{col-begin}}
    {{col-3}}
    First column
    {{col-3}}
    Second
    {{col-3}}
    Third
    {{col-end}}

    Yields

    First column

    Second

    Third

    Disambiguation Edit

    • Use {{disambig}}, if a page has a chance of being confused with a page of a similar name but different content, a disambiguation page may be in order. See that page for more info on creating one and linking to it.
    • However, sometimes a disabiguation page is not appropriate, but a short note at the top may still be necessary. {{for}} can be useful for this situation.
    {{for|the original 40-man raid introduced in [[Patch 1.11]]|Naxxramas (original)}}

    For the original 40-man raid introduced in Patch 1.11, see Naxxramas (original).

    Tables of Contents Edit

    Though discouraged (see WoWWiki:Manual of Style), you can float the table of contents of a page to the right with {{tocright}}.

    Tabs Edit

    If you want to make a nice looking tab to clearly indicate what to click, like discussion, you can use the following:

    Template links Edit

    Make example template code for templates with a link to them:

    • Wikitext: Simple template (i.e. {{t|template}})
    • Output: Simple template (i.e. {{template}})

    Make example template code for templates (un-italicized parameters) with a link to them:

    • Wikitext: Simple template with 1 parameter (i.e. <code>{{t2|template|param1}}</code>)
    • Output: Simple template with 1 parameter (i.e. {{template|param1}})

    See also Edit

    Add references to other articles using {{seealso}}. For example, to add two references to a page, use {{seealso|Health regeneration|Mana regeneration}}:

    See also: Health regenerationMana regeneration

    For consistency, it's recommended that you add a section at the bottom titled "See also"

    Example, Example/Begin, Example/End Edit

    {{Example|<small text>}} can be used for very small examples, but often you will want to pull in substantial pieces of other pages or templates, in which case you can use {{Example/Begin}} LOTS of text, probably multiline {{Example/End}}:

    LOTS of text, probably multiline

    Key-presses Edit

    The {{keypress}} template gives a nice 3D-looking keyboard key example.

    Example:

    {{keypress|A}} produces A

    To illustrate keystroke combinations, just use extra parameters:

    {{keypress|Alt|P}} produces Alt+P
    {{keypress|Ctrl|Alt|Del}} produces Ctrl+Alt+Del

    Other examples:

    {{keypress|Shift}} produces ⇧ Shift
    {{keypress|Enter}} produces ↵ Enter
    {{keypress|Cmd}} produces ⌘ Cmd
    {{keypress|Opt}} produces ⌥ Opt
    {{keypress|Tab}} produces Tab ⇆
    {{keypress|Backspace}} produces ← Backspace
    {{keypress|Up}} produces
    {{keypress|Down}} produces
    {{keypress|Left}} produces
    {{keypress|Right}} produces

    Page actions Edit

    • {{edit|<pagename>}} can be used to create a link for editing a page, e.g. {{edit|WoWWiki:Templates}} creates [edit].

    Powers Edit

    A power is just any kind of ability or spell used by an minion, mob, NPC, or Hunter pet. Otherwise it functions just like {{ability}} and requires the linked page to have {{Infobox ability}} used correctly on it.

    {{power|<powername>|<displayname>}}

    Usage: {{power|Axe Toss|Axe Toss, the Felguard ability}}

    Money Edit

    Multiple ways to do money exist, but only a few are practical, and here they are:

    • 123Gold 45Silver 67Copper {{cost|<123>|<45>|<67>}}
    • 123Gold67Copper {{cost|<123>|<>|<67>}}
    • 25Gold 50Silver {{cost|<g=25>|<s=50>}}
    • 35Silver 10Copper {{cost|<s=35>|<c=10>}}
    • 10Gold 48Silver 32Copper{{cost|<g=10>|<s=48>|<c=32>}}

    The {{cost}} template also supports many, many other non-money, non-coin currencies. See the template documentation for details.

    Battle pets Edit

    Mists-Logo-Small This section concerns content exclusive to Mists of Pandaria.

    Most databases mix battle pets among the NPCs, but you can use this template for external links instead of {{Elinks-NPC}}.

    Class Edit

    For showing the fancy class crest. Used mostly for class specific quest rewards or the like.

    Currency Edit

    Similar to money, there are now many other types of currencies in WoW, where you exchange items as a currency for another item. For example:

    • {{costitem|1|Alterac Valley Mark of Honor}}: 1 Inv jewelry necklace 21
    • {{costitem|100|Dalaran Cooking Award}}: 100 Inv misc ribbon 01
    • {{costitem|1|Breastplate of the Wayward Conqueror}}: 1 Inv chest chain 03

    Events Edit

    Some databases use a shared id for recurring in-game events like Hallow's End.

    External links
    {{elinks-event|<id>}} Pirate's Day

    Usage: {{elinks-event|398}}

    Warlords-Logo-Small This section concerns content exclusive to Warlords of Draenor.

    Items Edit

    To create an item link within an article, use the {{item}} template, passing it the name of the item's page on WoWWiki. If desired, you can also ask {{item}} to add the item's icon to its output by adding |icon= to the tooltip code.

    {{item|Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian (warlock)}} [Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian]
    {{item|Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian (warlock)|Warlock's Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian}} [Warlock's Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian]
    {{item|Azuresong Mageblade|icon=}} Inv sword 39 [Azuresong Mageblade]
    {{item|Heirloom with no page}} Heirloom with no page

    Loot Edit

    A bit more complicated to use (you have to supply the quality), the {{loot}} doesn't work the wiki engine as hard, still supplies tooltips, and works better for items without pages yet ({{item}} pulls quality info from the {{tooltip}} on the page).

    Example Result
    {{loot|legendary|Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian (warlock)}} [Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian (warlock)]
    {{loot|legendary|Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian (warlock)|Warlock's Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian}} [Warlock's Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian]
    {{loot|epic|Azuresong Mageblade}} [Azuresong Mageblade]
    {{loot|heirloom|Heirloom with no page}} [Heirloom with no page]

    External links
    Items of all sorts
    {{Elinks-item|<ID>}}
    Example: {{Elinks-item|1388}}
    Output: Crooked Staff

    Glyph Edit

    The {{glyph}} template is a derivative of {{loot}} that checks for "glyph of" and doesn't require a quality.

    Example Result
    {{glyph|Glyph of Unending Breath}} [Glyph of Unending Breath]
    {{glyph|Not a glyph}} This doesn't appear to be a glyph

    GM item Edit

    • {{GM-item}} displays a banner noting this item is most likely for GMs only.

    Guilds Edit

    This template will link to the Battle.net guild page at the official site.

    External links
    {{Elink-guild|<MyGuild>|<MyServer>|<US/EU>}}

    Usage:

    {{Elink-guild|MyGuild|MyServer|EU}}
    {{Elink-guild|MyGuild|MyServer|US}}
    {{Elink-guild|MyGuild|MyServer|EU}}

    Displays:

    Icon-bnetwowus-22x22 Battle.net: MyGuild @ MyServer (US)
    Icon-bnetwoweu-22x22 Battle.net: MyGuild @ MyServer (EU)

    Mobs and NPCs Edit

    If you just want to link to a mob or NPC with a link that will show a tooltip on mouseover you can use one of two templates.

    • {{mob|<name>|<title>|<optional label>|<boss=>|<level=>}} - does not require a faction as a parameter, but |boss= (no value needed) will show the boss skull (Boss 15) before the mob link and |level= (no value needed) can be used to show the mob level (add a "+" after the level number to indicate Elite).
    Example: {{mob|Hogger|Scourge of Low-level Alliance|boss=|level=11+}}
    Output: Boss 15 [11+] Hogger <Scourge of Low-level Alliance>
    • {{NPC|<faction>|<name>|<title>|<optional label>|<boss=>|<level=>}} - requires faction as the first parameter. Also uses |level= (no value needed) can be used to show the mob level (add a "+" after the level number to indicate Elite).
    Example: {{NPC|Horde|Baine Bloodhoof|High Chieftain|level=??+}}
    Output: Official horde mini-icon [??+] Baine Bloodhoof <High Chieftain>

    DB mob and NPC external links Edit

    Mob or NPC
    Example: {{Elinks-NPC|17876}}
    Output: Thrall from Old Hillsbrad Foothills

    Battle.net boss external links Edit

    Instance bosses
    {{Bnetwowboss|<Instance name>|<Boss name>|<optional boss label>}}
    Example: {{Bnetwowboss|Scarlet Monastery|High Inquisitor Whitemane}}
    Output:

    Objects Edit

    The tooltip only works for this type of link, if the object page has a {{tooltip}} template used on it like a regular item. An |id= should be added for objects that have no corresponding page, but links should have the |id= removed when the page exists.

    Example Result
    {{object|Tattered Chest}} [Tattered Chest]
    {{object|Tattered Chest|s}} [Tattered Chests]
    {{object|Tattered Chest|id=2844}} [Tattered Chest]ω τ ϖ
    {{object|Imaginary Chest|id=2844}} [Imaginary Chest]ω τ ϖ
    {{object|Imaginary Chest}} [Imaginary Chest]

    External links
    Objects
    {{Elinks-object|<ID>}}
    Example: {{Elinks-object|321}}
    Output: Tear of Tilloa

    Player characters Edit

    External links
    {{Elink-PC|<MyChar>|<MyServer>|<US/EU>|<faction=a or h>|<>|<showrealm=>}}

    Usage:

    {{Elink-PC|MyChar|MyServer|US}}
    {{Elink-PC|MyChar|MyServer|EU|faction=h}}
    {{Elink-PC|MyChar|MyServer|US|showrealm=}}
    {{Elink-PC|MyChar|MyServer|EU}}

    Displays:

    Icon-bnetwowus-22x22 Battle.net: MyChar
    Icon-bnetwoweu-22x22 Battle.net: Official horde mini-icon MyChar
    Icon-bnetwowus-22x22 Battle.net: MyChar @ MyServer (US)
    Icon-bnetwoweu-22x22 Battle.net: MyChar

    Quests Edit

    There are two ways to link to quest articles. There is the normal way, because sometimes you just need to mention the quest, which makes use of the template {{quest}}, that automatically drops the "Quest:" from the name (used for cleaner code):

    {{quest|Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You}} as opposed to [[Quest:Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You|Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You]]

    The second way is more detailed, and is usually used in bulleted lists.

    {{questlong|<faction>|<questlevel>|<questname>|<displayname>}}

    Usage: {{questlong|Neutral|54|Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You}}
    Displays: Neutral 15 [54] Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You

    External links
    {{elinks-quest|<id>}}

    Usage: {{elinks-quest|7504}}

    Displays:

    Quest change Edit

    If you see a small part of a quest article, a section of a quest article, or a small part or section of an article involved with a quest that you want to mark as significantly changed you can use the following templates (inline and section).

    {{Questch-inline}}
    Displays: Quest Avail 16x16Icon-move-22x22

    {{Questch-section}}

    Displays:
    Quest Avail 16x16Icon-move-22x22 Note: These quests are no longer associated with this particular mob/NPC/item.

    Level cap money calc Edit

    Calculates how XP for quests will be converted to money for level capped chars.

    Usage: {{MaxXPCoin|<XP>|<Quest_level>|<Max_level>|<Optional_one_line_boolean>}}

    {{MaxXPCoin|14930|99|100}}
    Displays:
    14,930 XP
    or 1Gold25Silver57Copper at Level 100

    {{MaxXPCoin|14930|99|100|*}}
    Displays:
    14,930 XP or 1Gold25Silver57Copper at Level 100

    Footers Edit

    See also: Category:Navigation templates

    These templates take one parameter "class" which should be replaced by the class name; "Mage", "Warrior" etc. This is used to create links back to class-specific pages.

    Instances and zones Edit

    External links to Battle.net Edit

    Instances
    Example: {{Bnetwowinstance|Temple of AhnQiraj|Temple of Ahn'Qiraj}}
    Output:

    Zones

    Battle.net doesn't have pages for zones in the regular Game Guide, so these links will just search battle.net for the zone name.

    • {{Bnetwowzone|<Zone name or page>|<Zone name>|<expansion=>}}
    Example: {{Bnetwowzone|KunLai Summit|Kun-Lai Summit}}
    Output:

    However, if you specify the expansion for Mists-Logo-Small Mists of Pandaria zones, the link will point to the zone specific page.

    Example: {{Bnetwowzone|The Jade Forest}}
    Output:

    Realms and servers Edit

    Internal links
    Example:
    {{Realmlink|Eonar|US}}
    {{Realmlink|Defias Brotherhood|EU}}
    Output:

    Usage: {{elinks-zone|14}}

    NOTE: The template above can be used for subzones by supplying the subzone id as the id, but Wowhead/Thottbot don't really support subzones anymore and WoWDB seems to have some, but reports them as "This zone is not available in game." Predecessor to WoWDB, DB.MMO-Champion.com is obsolete and only supported subzones from Cataclysm-Logo-Small Cataclysm and earlier.

    Subzones Edit

    Unfortunately most databases have been inconsistent and spotty with their support of subzones by id, but MMO4EVER seems to do a good job up through Cataclysm-Logo-Small Cataclysm subzones, but you have to supply the zone id also which is a bit extra work.

    Blizzard Edit

    Blizzard text colors Edit

    • Use {{text|<blizz>|<text>}} or class="blizztext" for coloring official Blizzard text
      Wikicode example: {{t|text|blizz|All your CC trinkets will be nerfed against level 60 in 2.0.3, but that's how it was supposed to work.}}
      Wikicode example: <span class="blizztext">All your CC trinkets will be nerfed against level 60 in 2.0.3, but that's how it was supposed to work.</span>
      i.e. All your CC trinkets will be nerfed against level 60 in 2.0.3, but that's how it was supposed to work.
    • For those using Monaco skin, use class="blizzlink" for coloring official Blizzard links (in posts, announcements, press releases etc.).
      Wikicode example: <span class="blizztext">Visit the official community site:</span> [http://http://us.battle.net/wow/en/ <b class="blizzlink">http://us.battle.net/wow/en/</b>]
      i.e. Visit the official community site: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/

    Patch notes and hotfixes Edit

    NOTE: Do not use worldofwarcraft.com or wow-europe.com-based URLs unless you must. Since the Battle.net transition most will not work anymore.

    • Use {{Patched|<patch>|<note>|<comment>}} to add patch note information to an article
      Wikicode example: {{{{patched|patch=3.1.0|note=Exorcism: Now can be used on any target and has a 100% chance to be a critical strike when used on Undead and Demons.|comment=This is to ensure that paladins do not see a drop in their dps when progressing from [[Naxxramas]] (which is full of undead) to [[Ulduar]] and beyond (not as much undead). Due to this change, {{loot|common|Glyph of Exorcism}} was changed to 20% bonus damage.}}
      i.e. WoW Icon 16x16 Patch 3.1.0 (2009-04-14): Exorcism: Now can be used on any target and has a 100% chance to be a critical strike when used on Undead and Demons.
    This is to ensure that paladins do not see a drop in their dps when progressing from Naxxramas (which is full of undead) to Ulduar and beyond (not as much undead). Due to this change, [Glyph of Exorcism] was changed to 20% bonus damage.
    • Use {{Patched|<date>|<bluenote>|<link>}} to add hotfix information to an article
      Wikicode example: {{Patched|date=2009-05-19|bluenote=Some of the trash mob packs have been removed in the areas leading to [[Ignis the Furnace Master]] and [[Freya]].|link=http://blue.mmo-champion.com/topic/6752/recent-in-game-fixes-april-may-2009}}
      i.e. WoW Icon 16x16 Hotfix (2009-05-19): "Some of the trash mob packs have been removed in the areas leading to Ignis the Furnace Master and Freya."

    Quality Colors Edit

    The following templates change the color of the links. In case there is such a concern, note that each link, when moused over, has the underline in the typical link color. For instance, if a link does not exist, the underline is red; if it does exist, the underline is blue.

    NOTE: Color for Artifact items used to be red and is currently undecided by Blizzard as there are no items of this type in-game yet, however GetItemQualityColor API function currently returns 0.90196..., 0.8, 0.50196..., "|cffe6cc80" (shown in that color) for quality=6 (Artifact), which gives some idea.

    For simple quality links for use in other templates, use the following format:

    • the template name indicates the item has a quality
    • the first argument is the quality of a given item
    • the second argument is the name of a given item's article

    Example Result
    {{Quality|<Heirloom>|<heirloom>}}heirloom
    {{Quality|<Artifact>|<artifact>}}artifact
    {{Quality|<Legendary>|<legendary>}}legendary
    {{Quality|<Epic>|<epic>}}epic
    {{Quality|<Rare>|<rare>}}rare
    {{Quality|<Uncommon>|<uncommon>}}uncommon
    {{Quality|<Common>|<common>}}common

    Non-quality colors using Quality template
    {{Quality|<Wowtoken>|<wowtoken>}}wowtoken
    {{Quality|<Enchant>|<enchant>}}enchant
    {{Quality|<Object>|<object>}}object
    {{Quality|<Ability>|<ability>}}ability
    {{Quality|<Power>|<power>}}power

    Simple color replacement templates deprecated using styling in MediaWiki:Common.css:

    Reputation colors Edit

    The {{reputation|<rep level>|<link page>|<alt text>}} template changes the color of text based on the reputation selected.

    Example Result
    {{reputation|exalted}}exalted
    {{reputation|revered}}revered
    {{reputation|honored}}honored
    {{reputation|friendly}}friendly
    {{reputation|neutral}}neutral
    {{reputation|unfriendly}}unfriendly
    {{reputation|hostile}}hostile
    {{reputation|hated}}hated

    You can also color custom text as well. For example: {{reputation|hated|very hated}} results in very hated.

    Colored text Edit

    You can also easily color inline text with {{text}}. This template comes preloaded with some common colors - "emote", "say", "yell", "whisper", and "blizz" but many other colors can be supplied as well.

    For example (2 params): {{Text|whisper|An Unknown Voice whispers: Tell yourself again that these are not truly your friends.}} results in

    An Unknown Voice whispers: Tell yourself again that these are not truly your friends.

    ...or (3 params): {{Text|whisper|An Unknown Voice|Tell yourself again that these are not truly your friends.}} results in

    An Unknown Voice whispers: Tell yourself again that these are not truly your friends.
