Starting at level 10, a Paladin can begin spending talent points to gain new abilities and spells, strengthen existing abilities, and specialize how he/she functions. See the entry on Talents for more information about the Talent system. Paladin Talents have undergone significant changes since the game was released, most notably with the patch 4.0.1 revamp.

Paladin talent trees

Paladins train in three schools: Holy, Protection, and Retribution. Which talent trees the Paladin spends points in determines the Paladin's role in parties and raids. Holy Paladins are strong healers, and are able to do burst spell damage if specced properly. Protection Paladins make great tanks. Retribution Paladins are powerful melee DPS.

Holy

The Holy tree contains talents focused on healing and caster-related buffs. A Holy Paladin may go into the protection tree for Ability priest ascendance [Divinity] and/or Inv torch thrown [Eternal Glory]. A Holy Paladin could
alternatively go into the Retribution tree for Ability paladin sanctifiedwrath [Crusade], Ability paladin judgementblue [Improved Judgement], Ability paladin longarmofthelaw [Rule of Law] and/or Spell holy sealofprotection [Guardian's Favor].

Spell holy heal [Divine Favor] Holy 10 1 Increases your spell casting haste by 20% and spell critical chance by 20% for 20 sec.
Ability paladin infusionoflight [Infusion of Light] Holy 10 2 Increases the critical effect chance of your Spell holy searinglight [Holy Shock] by 5%-10%. In addtion, your Spell holy searinglight [Holy Shock] critical effects reduce the cast time of your next Spell holy surgeoflight [Holy Light] by 0.75-1.50 sec.
Spell holy aspiration [Daybreak] Holy 10 2 Your Spell holy flashheal [Flash of Light], Spell holy surgeoflight [Holy Light] and Divine Light have a 10%-20% chance to make your next Spell holy searinglight [Holy Shock] not trigger a cooldown if used within 12 sec.
Ability paladin enlightenedjudgements [Enlightened Judgements] Holy 15 2 Grants hit rating equal to 50% of any Spirit gained from items or effects, and increases the range of your Judgement by 5-10 yards. In addition, your Judgement instantly heals you for 1113-2558.
Ability paladin beaconoflight [Beacon of Light] Holy 15 1 The target becomes a Ability paladin beaconoflight [Beacon of Light] to all members of your party or raid within a 60 yard radius. Each heal you cast on party or raid members will also heal the Beacon for 50% of the amount healed. Only one target can be the Ability paladin beaconoflight [Beacon of Light] at a time. Lasts 1 min.

Also lowers the cooldown on Spell paladin divinecircle [Holy Radiance] by 10-30 sec at all times.
Ability paladin sacredcleansing [Sacred Cleansing] Holy 15 1 Your Spell holy purify [Cleanse] spell now also dispels 1 Magic effect.
Ability paladin conviction [Conviction] Holy 20 3 Gives you a 1%-3% bonus to damage and healing for 15 sec after causing a critical effect from a weapon swing, spell, or ability. This effect stacks up to 3 times.
Spell holy auramastery [Aura Mastery] Holy 20 1 Causes your Spell holy mindsooth [Concentration Aura] to make all affected targets immune to Silence and Interrupt effects and improve the effect of all other auras by 100%. Lasts 6 sec.
Spell holy avenginewrath [Paragon of Virtue] Holy 20 2 Reduces the cooldown of your Spell holy divineprotection [Divine Protection] by 10-20 sec and the cooldown of your Spell holy avenginewrath [Avenging Wrath] by 30-60 sec.

Spell holy blessedlife [Blessed Life] Holy 25 2 You have a 50%-100% chance to gain a charge of Holy Power whenever you take direct damage. This effect cannot occur more than once every 2 seconds.
Spell paladin lightofdawn [Light of Dawn] Holy 30 1 Send a wave of healing energy before you, healing yourself and all friendly targets up to 30 yards away for 1318 to 1610.

Protection

The Protection tree contains talents focused on damage mitigation and survivability. A Protection Paladin may go into the holy tree for Spell holy healingaura [Arbiter of the Light], Ability paladin protectoroftheinnocent [Protector of the Innocent],
Ability paladin judgementofthepure [Judgements of the Pure] or Last Word. A Protection Paladin could alternatively go into the Retribution tree for Ability paladin sanctifiedwrath [Crusade], Ability paladin judgementblue [Improved Judgement], Ability paladin longarmofthelaw [Rule of Law] and/or Pursuit of Justice.

Hallowed Ground Protection 10 2 Increases the damage of your Spell holy innerfire [Consecration] by 20%-40% and decreases its mana cost by 40%-80%.
Sanctuary Protection 10 3 Reduces the chance you'll be critically hit by melee attacks by 2%-6% and reduces all damage taken by 3%-10%. In addition when you block or dodge a melee attack you gain 1%-3% of maximum mana.
Ability paladin hammeroftherighteous [Hammer of the Righteous] Protection 10 1 Hammer the current target for 30% weapon damage, causing a wave of light that hits all targets within 8 yards for 523 to 783 Holy damage. Grants a charge of Holy Power.
Inv mace 82 [Wrath of the Lightbringer] Protection 10 2 Increases the damage by 30%-60% of your Spell holy crusaderstrike [Crusader Strike] and Judgement and increases the critical strike chance by 15%-30% of your Spell holy excorcism [Holy Wrath] and Spell paladin hammerofwrath [Hammer of Wrath].
Reckoning Protection 15 2 You have a 10%-20% chance after blocking an attack for your next 4 weapon swings within 8 sec to generate an additional attack.

Ability paladin shieldofthetemplar [Shield of the Templar] Protection 25 3 Reduces the cooldown of Spell holy avengersshield [Avenger's Shield] by 3-9 sec, Spell holy heroism [Guardian of Ancient Kings] by 1-3 min, and Spell holy avenginewrath [Avenging Wrath] by 20-60 sec.
Spell holy ardentdefender [Ardent Defender] Protection 30 1 Reduce damage taken by 20% for 10 sec. While Spell holy ardentdefender [Ardent Defender] is active, the next attack that would otherwise kill you will instead cause you to be healed for 15% of your maximum health.

Retribution

The Retribution tree contains talents focused on damage output, two-handed weapons, holy damage, and damage avoidance. A Retribution Paladin may go into the Holy tree for

In addition, for 15 sec after you kill an enemy that yields experience or honor, your next Holy Light heals for an additional 100%/200%/300%.

Pursuit of Justice Retribution 5 2 You have a 50%/100% chance to gain a charge of Holy Power when struck by a Stun, Fear or Immobilize effect. In addition, increases your movement and mounted speed by 8%/15%. This effect does not stack with other movement speed increasing effect.
Ability paladin judgementofthewise [Communion] Retribution 10 1 Your auras increase your party and raid's damage by 3% and your damage by an additional 2%. In additon, your Judgement causes replenishment.

Replenishment - Grants up to 10 party members mana regeneration equal to 1% of their maximum mana per 10 sec. Lasts for 15 sec.

The Art of War Retribution 10 3 Your autoattacks have a 7%/14%/20% chance to make your next Exorcism instant, free and cause 100% additional damage.

Inv sword 136 [Sanctity of Battle] Retribution 15 1 Haste effects lower the cooldown of your Crusader Strike.
Spell holy sealofblood [Seal of Command] Retribution 15 1 Your Seal of Righteousness, Seal of Truth and Seal of Justice now also deal 7% weapon damage each time you swing. In addition, your Seal of Righteousness now hits up to 2 additional targets.
Ability paladin sanctifiedwrath [Sanctified Wrath] Retribution 15 3 Increases the critical strike chance of Hammer of wrath by 20%/40%/60%, reduces the cooldown of Avenging Wrath by 20/40/60 secs and allows the use of Hammer of Wrath at all times during Avenging Wrath.
Ability paladin gaurdedbythelight [Selfless Healer] Retribution 20 2 When you heal others with your Word of Glory, it increases the effectiveness of the heal by 25%/50% and increases your damage done by 2%/4% per charge of Holy Power for 10 sec.
Spell holy prayerofhealing [Repentance] Retribution 20 1 Puts the enemy target in a state of meditation, incapacitating them for up to 1 min. Any damage caused will awaken the target. Usable against Demons, Dragonkin, Giants, Humanoids and Undead.

Ability paladin blessedhands [Acts of Sacrifice] Retribution 25 2 Reduces the cooldown by 10%/20% and mana cost by 10%/20% of your Hand of Freedom, Hand of Salvation and Hand of Sacrifice. In addition, your Cleanse will remove one movement impairing effect if cast on yourself.
Spell holy weaponmastery [Zealotry] Retribution 30 1 Your Crusader Strike generates 3 charges of Holy Power per strike for the next 20 sec. Requires 3 Holy Power to use, but does not consume Holy Power.
