Thorium is a powerful metal mined on Azeroth. Can be smelted into Thorium Bars. In addition to its inherent strength, Alchemists and Enchanters can further improve on Thorium to allow for the creation of more powerful items.
The Thorium Brotherhood faction drew its name from the metal, as well.
Thorium sources
There are two comparatively common varieties of thorium veins: Rich Thorium Vein and Small Thorium Vein. These may differ in the value of drops, but both of them drop thorium ore, 
[Dense Stone], and gems.
There are also Ooze Covered Rich Thorium Vein and Ooze Covered Thorium Vein found in Silithid hives. These are essentially the same as the others.
Thorium is most frequently mined from Azshara, Burning Steppes, Eastern Plaguelands, Un'Goro Crater and Silithus.
Uses for Thorium
Thorium ore is used at alchemy skill level 280 to make 
[Greater Stoneshield Potion]. Also, alchemists can transmute thorium bars into arcanite with the help of an 
[Arcane Crystal], which drops from various thorium deposits with some frequency.
Blacksmithing and engineering make extensive use of thorium.
Enchanters can enchant common thorium bars into Enchanted Thorium Bars.
