For quest level you can also use 'G' for Group quests. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 10:29 AM PST 8 Nov 2007

No More Thottbot Edit

To help eliminate the tedium in using this template and to cut down on favoritism for certain external sights, the template will no longer honor the fourth parameter as a Thottbot ID. This doesn't prevent, however, the actual quest articles to still link to Thottbot, which is the encouraged behavior. --Hobinheim 00:32, 7 December 2006 (EST)

Since Questnotb and Questlong are now functionally the same, should one of them just be made a redirect? --Beep 23:09, 12 December 2006 (EST)

No more Elite Quests Edit

Since Blizz has eradicated Elite Quests, and turned them into Group quests, could we change this to reflect that somehow? Perhaps put a new variable that puts the recommended players or something on the end? For instance:

Official alliance mini-icon [60G:2] Quest Name

I'm sure someone else would have a better idea... --SeiferTim 13:17, 29 January 2007 (EST)

The norm that I have seen is something like {{questlong|faction|60G2|quest_name|display_name|noext=true|id=questid}}
A good example would be Neutral 15 [70G5] Zuluhed the Whacked
ShardeeDetheroc 17:00, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Have all Elite quests been turned into Group quests, or are there still Elite quests in the game? And can anyone tell in which patch this happened? This information would be useful for the Documentation section.--Hops Splurt (talk) 19:54, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Questrace Edit

new {{questrace}} template --Eirik Ratcatcher 00:14, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Can anyone give an example of an actual race-restricted quest? I have encountered many Class-restricted quests, but no race-restricted ones. Useful for the Documentation section.--Hops Splurt (talk) 19:58, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
The Tauren 'cleanse the wells' quest chain is Tauren only. The quests in the entire Blood Elf beginning area up to the bridge off the island (just before the Ruins of Silvermoon) are Blood Elf only.

Mouse over tooltip Edit

Would it be possible to update this to include the mouse-over tooltip? By this I mean Official horde mini-icon Ui-charactercreate-classes mage [16] Arcane Reavers (using questclass) does not show a tooltip, whereas Official horde mini-icon [16] Arcane Reavers (using questlong) does.

OK, it's done. --Pcj (TC) 22:32, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

race and class Edit

I noticed that questlong now has a race parameter, which is great. Can we add the same thing for class? --Jiyambi t || c 19:44, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

And if somebody works on this: how about adding a profession parameter as well? And maybe that's over the top, but can we have a parameter in questlong, or a template on its own, for seasonal quests as well? (Reeina 20:24, 16 February 2008 (UTC))
Good idea! I don't think it's over the top, personally. It is a lot nicer just to use one template for everything than to have separate ones like {{questclass}} and {{questrace}}. --Jiyambi t || c 21:20, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
For Seasonal quests, I would just set the level to be [60 Seasonal]. Don't know about profession; is there a set of icons you would like to use in particular? And as for class, can definitely do that. Will look into it. --Sky (t | c | w) 21:25, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
For the professions icons, I was thinking things like {{Trade Icon Alchemy Small}} and it's friends in Category:WoW icon templates. --Jiyambi t || c 22:53, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
I've got a different set of icons in mind, but yes, I'll have a look at it. I hate using templates within templates, as it clogs the list at the bottom, and makes for transclusion nightmares. --Sky (t | c | w) 23:09, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Since we have square icons for race and class we should also use {{Prof Alchemy Icon Small}} (or directly: APB Skill Alchemy). Optically I prefer the round icons, but this set is more consistent with the other icons we use. Forget that: Those icons are slightly to big to fit with the rest and the faction icons are also not rectangular.) (Reeina 15:46, 17 February 2008 (UTC))
We can shrink the image in the template, so that's no biggy. Those were the images I was thinking, however, I'm not sure I have time. Could you or someone else have a go at a Template:Questlong/dev? --Sky (t | c | w) 06:01, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

't would be nice if u can add as 2nd param also Aldor or scryer, as... these quests ar per se neutral, but if you look closer not really ;) hope u got my point ;) Alliance 15HJT (t/c) 08:37, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Will not do. They are neutral, for all intents and purposes. --Sky (t · c · w) 06:18, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Right, but I think this is a good point. The point of questlong is to provide information about the quest at a glance that is helpful. You must admit that the aldor scryer information is immensely more helpful than "neutral". If it is really an issue, add it as a second icon rather than as a replacement. However, I really must disagree that this simply "will not do" - I am frankly shocked it hasn't been broached before. I mean, if we have modifications for this for class, race, and profession, certainly we can add one for aldor/scryer. --Jiyambi t || c 07:54, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Yes, but than that opens the way for the other "this one or that one factions", which while the majority of them have nowhere near the importance of the Aldor or the Scryers, I see little reason to make that change. Slippery slope and all that. --Sky (t · c · w) 08:12, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Problem I see with this is that the quest chains for the two factions are almost EXACTLY the same. Some of the quests have slightly different names, but still have the same objectives. In almost every case you can look at an Aldor quest and say "what's the Scryer version of this?" It'd be much simpler to crosslink the aldor/scryer duplicate quests to each other on the quests' pages as disambig. "Were you looking for the Scryer version of this quest?"... TeжubԎ Ҩ Ѡ 18:05, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
That is a good point. I concede :) --Jiyambi t || c 21:44, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Quest levelEdit

"level (is) The nominal level of the quest (not the level at which it can be obtained)."
What is the background to this? Why do we or anyone else care about the nominal level? From a user PoV, I only care about when can I do the quest. Is this for disambiguation? --Madkaugh (talk) 23:58, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Because the level of the objectives may differ from the level you may obtain the quest. If a quest would be able to be obtained at level 28, but the quest mobs are level 40 or the quest item drops from a level 40 mob, wouldn't you want to know that? There is a reason why Blizzard has different levels on the quests. User:Gourra/Sig2 00:13, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Quest level is the level used to determine the color displayed in the quest log. It's the level Blizzard decided is the "best" level to do the quest. There are many quests that show up orange or red when you can first acquire them, and are basically suicide if you turn around and try to do them immediately. In short, required level and quest level are two completely different values. Also, some quests do not have a required level, but every quest has a preferred level. TeжubԎ Ҩ Ѡ 03:16, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
"...wouldn't you want to know that?" - Wouldn't you want to know both?
"There is a reason why Blizzard has different levels on the quests." - You mean there is normally a reason Blizzard has different levels on the quests. You know that all the Darkmoon Faire quests have nominal level 60?
"Quest level is the level used to determine the color displayed in the quest log." - That makes sense. DMF doesn't show up in the log, except for the barker's quest, so the turn-ins could be any nominal level. --Madkaugh (talk) 13:02, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Daily questEdit

Is there a way of notating that the quest is a daily quest with this template? Is there another preferred template for daily quests? Madkaugh (talk) 21:57, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Just type out Daily next to the level, ie Official horde mini-icon [70 Daily] Touch a Horde. Same with PvP, Group (G-5), or elite (+) User:Coobra/Sig3 22:28, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. Madkaugh (talk) 23:23, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Questrace deprecated Edit

While browsing Category:Things to do (specifically Category:Pages using deprecated templates), I came across {{questrace}}. I have used MurphBot to deprecate its usage for {{questlong|<...>|<race=>}}. For the sake of documentation, as it was an interesting and slightly unusual trick that I used, I setup the following in User:MurphBot/Sandbox[1]:

That's the active contents from questrace, but with <includeonly>subst:</includeonly> inserted at the start of the conditional logic (see m:Help:Substitution#Includeonly for the official docs on it). I then replaced {{questrace| with {{subst:User:MurphBot/Sandbox|, and let MediaWiki's own parser do the hard work of swapping the parameters around and worrying about 4 vs. 5 parameters. So, the replacements should behave exactly as they were behaving prior to the change, as the logic used to produce the questlong usage is identical. I have moved questrace to Category:Deprecated templates, but it is not yet marked for deletion. If there are no objections, I will tag it for deletion in the near future. --Murph (talk · contr) 09:57, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Questclass should be added to questlong like Questrace was Edit

Add class= to questlong just like race= then questlong can be use for class quests in the same maner as racial quests are. -- (M o r p hJames E. Rooks, Jr. aka: Morph

I second this. That way for example the tauren paladin quest(s) can be marked as such. --User:Gourra/Sig2 18:06, August 8, 2010 (UTC)
