The Pit of Saron is a great saronite quarry located in the mountains surrounding Icecrown Citadel. Enshrouded in unnatural fog, the quarry is almost impossible to locate from the air, and only by passing through the twisting tunnels and dark halls of the citadel itself can one find it. Beyond the quarry is a gate leading into the hidden, inner sanctum of the Lich King - the Frozen Halls. Passing through the pit is the only way to breach these forbidden portions of the citadel.

Lore

The Pit of Saron was once a place where captives of the Alliance and the Horde were worked to death by cruel Scourge overseers, and then raised into undeath and forced to continue their labor. Massive quantities of saronite ore were extracted from the Pit and used in the construction of the Lich King's most fiendish weapons. The Twilight's Hammer have secured this quarry and have continued the Scourge mining operations under the command of Forgemaster Balehammer. The Hammer stands guard over the entrance to the innermost reaches of Icecrown Citadel, the Frozen Halls, where Velius has gone. Velius seeks the dread saronite necropolis, Malykriss, which was completed shortly before the death of the Lich King but never unleashed.

Dungeon denizens

• Scourge forces have been replaced with Twilight's Hammer forces. Larger enemies have been replaced with nerubians and Faceless Ones.
• Forgemaster Garfrost has been replaced with Dark Master Zorc. He summons additional boss enemies - the dreadlord Necrofius and the pitlord Phades.
• Krick and Ick have been replaced with Twilight Arcanist Zin'fanel.
• Overlord Tyrannus has been replaced with Forgemaster Balehammer and Dread Iron, a massive Iron Giant.
• A new boss, Twilight Lord Urizen, has been added to the entrance to the Halls of Reflection.

Bosses

Forgemaster Garfrost

A master of Scourge weaponry, the forgemaster hauls stocks of saronite ore and other precious materials to the cold forges where the mechanisms of death are born. With a host of rime weapons and exotic alloys at his disposal, it could get cold in here.

Krick and Ick

Zombies serve as mindless muscle in the Pit of Saron's mines, stockpiling metals for Forgemaster Garfrost, and Krick -- a devious leper gnome -- supervises the operations from atop Ick, Krick's ghastly means of transportation.

Scourgelord Tyrannus

Tyrannus is a terrible force who will no doubt demonstrate his powers to those brave enough to enter the Pit of Saron. The scourgelord must die if players hope to make their way into the third and final wing of this dungeon.
