Draenei Classes

Got the new Draenei classes up there from the NYT interview. They appear to be balanced pretty well, except for the Alliance having one extra priest. --Xmuskrat 10:46, 10 May 2006 (EDT)

Yes, but the Horde also get one extra Warlock. Either way, someone needs to get base stats! Not really important, but I'm thinking the Draenei will be more Str/Sta oriented, like Dwarves, Tauren and Orcs. --Adonzo 01:08, 11 May 2006 (EDT)
Aw, E3's over and there's still no base stats! =(
Hope somebody managed to grab 'em. --Adonzo 01:57, 13 May 2006 (EDT)
Speaking of base stats, I updated the other races and took away the warrior class bonuses that were included on most of them. I also took out the mage bonus from the Blood Elves. --Drewbacca 13:15, 7 June 2006 (EDT)

High Elves

The line adding High Elves as well as the comment on why are total fan fiction and belong only on pages tagged 'rumor'.

The race-specific pages now use templates for the Racial Traits e.g. {{Dwarf Traits}} etc, to ensure the traits listed in the Racial Traits page will always match those in the class specific pages such as Dwarf. For that reason, I've used bold font rather than headlines - in this way, the traits can be inserted into _any_ Wiki page. The downside is you can't index the individual traits, but you can always link to the class traits, e.g. Dwarf Traits if you wanted to reference something like Stone Form.

I've reformatted some of the attributes to use tables with links through to the relevant attribute, but I can't find a source for the base-stats for each race. I've a feeling the stats listed at the moment are each class-specific. If someone can validate the stats it'd be great. If they can format em like the Dwarf attribute table too (or something nicer), even better!

One further idea for these pages would be to create links to some additional pages discussing the starting areas and the main cities. These could, in turn, link to maps, Quests etc. Also some more lore like that in the Night Elf page would fit in nicely if anyone has time

Blood Elf Classes

Only a couple classes are confirmed for the Blood Elves. Others haven't yet been confirmed. If I've missed the announcement, please link it here.

  • For sure: Warrior, Mage, Warlock. Perhaps not officially confirmed, but it's pretty obvious.
  • Possible: Priest, Rogue, Hunter
  • No chance: Druid, Shaman, Paladin

Theory: Hunters seem likely, since they have such a long history with ranged weapons (they were the main ranged unit in WC2 and WC3X). Considering their demonic-nature focus, it seems less likely that they are Priests, but since the Horde only has 2 priest races anyway, they probably can be priests. No clue about rogues.

--Bevans (FeldmanSkitzoid) 14:51, 21 Dec 2005 (EST)

Hunter for Blood Elves doesn't make sense to me. Isn't being a Hunter a naturey thing? Blood Elves are pretty much anti-nature. --Fandyllic 12:35 PM PST 30 Mar 2006
In a new dev interview on Gamespot, they confirm Mages and Rogues.--Bevans (FeldmanSkitzoid) 10:58, 1 April 2006 (EST)

I'm kinda annoyed that Blood Elves' can't be Hunters, seen as how they has such a history as the best damn Archers and Rangers in the world. --Adonzo 17:33, 1 June 2006 (EDT)

Draenai classes

NY Times reports it's Draenai, and they have some screenshots. http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2006/05/10/technology/night.large.jpg shows a paladin Draenai apparently (lightforge and bubble),

Other Races list

Why do we have a list of other races and creatures on this page? That's why we have the Category:Creatures page. I think we need to axe it and make the link to Creatures a little bit more pronounced. Otherwise, the list on this page is just going to get larger and larger, as was the case before I split the Creatures page off onto its own page.

--Bevans (FeldmanSkitzoid) 11:30, 8 August 2006 (EDT)
The idea is that it's a list of other SENTIENT, generally humanoid races that are important to the game. It does, however, need to be trimmed a bought. --Adonzo 17:36, 8 August 2006 (EDT)

Capitalization

The recent edits regarding the capitalization of "elf" have been reverted in accordance with our policy on race name capitalization. --Hobinheim 01:31, 25 December 2006 (EST)

Final New Race Stats

The new mini site seems to indicate that blood elves have had their starting stats buffed a bit, stamina was increased to 22, I think. Suzaku 02:55, 12 January 2007 (EST)

The mini-site also says that Hunters and Rogues gain a +3 bonus to stamina. Methinks somethings not right with the mini-site. Wait for in-game stats IMO. --Adonzo 22:53, 14 January 2007 (EST)

What is that thing on the article page, some kind of Abomination, or some kind of inside race I dont know of? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mr.8X (talk · contr). No, actually Im (Mr.X8 05:38, 19 May 2007 (UTC)) I dont mind, it was an honest mistake. (Mr.X8 05:38, 19 May 2007 (UTC))

It's a joke of a bunch of races mixed together, get over it.--SWM2448 19:19, 12 May 2007 (EDT)
I've added a mouseover explaining what it's about. And gone into more detail on the image description page. Someone apparently also has decided to dub it a "fan art concept" of ettins, which I certainly never intended for it to be. Oh well. -- Mikk (T) 13:50, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
I've removed it from the Ettins page whilst laughing heartily :) User:Kirkburn/Sig3 17:15, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

what race is the left arm from? Mr.X8 01:48, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Sentience and sapience

Can we please find and replace all usages of the word 'sentience' when referring to the ability to think conciously? This is a common misconception somewhat furthered by extensive usage in fiction like Star Wars; and it just irritates me...

Sentience refers to possession of sensory organs, the ability to feel or perceive, not necessarily including the faculty of self-awareness. The possession of sapience is not a necessity. The word sentient is often confused with the word sapient, which can connote knowledge, consciousness, or apperception. The root of the confusion is that the word conscious has a number of different usages in English. The two words can be distinguished by looking at their Latin roots: sentire, "to feel"; and sapere, "to know". Sentience is the ability to sense. It is separate from, and not dependent on, aspects of consciousness.

Not trying to be anal-retentive. ^^ --User:Vorbis/Sig

OK--SWM2448 21:46, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
Very good point Vorbis - thanks for enlightening me! :) User:Kirkburn/Sig3 13:44, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Races based on continents?

Recently, with the influx of new races from WotLK, the Azeroth portion of the race box is getting quite crowded, I suggest we separate races up based on continents. For races that are present on multiple continents, put them under continent of origin, and if that's not possible, the continent where they have the most influence.
