Notes

Something very specific about the ability to be mentioned. Separate each note by using double enters. It is suggested that the comments at one of the external database sites be imported here. If no notes, delete this section.

Notes are very specific facts about the spell. Here is a good place to include damage equations, special exceptions, and other highly-specific information. Notes in this section should still be generic, whereas situational uses would go in the Tips and tricks section.

If the ability is improved by an item or item-set bonus, then link the item / set here and explain how many pieces are required if a bonus.

Tips and tactics

Tricks that can be used with this ability. Separate each note by using double enters. It is suggested that the comments at one of the external database sites be imported here. If no tips tactics, delete this section.

This section is for player-submitted tips, tricks, tactics, advice and suggestions. Use seperate paragraphs and complete sentences rather than bullet lists. If an ability has a situational use, here is a good place to describe it.

For broader tactical situations, such as a particular boss strategy or grinding technique that encompasses more than just this one ability, do not list that entire tactic here. Instead, that tactic should be described in the class tactics article, or its own article. Summarize that tactic, paying attention to this ability's role, then link to the tactic article.

Known bugs

List any known bugs, using bullets. If a more thorough description can be given, use paragraphs. It is suggested that the comments at one of the external database sites be imported here. If no known bugs, delete this section.

A good reference for bugs is the WoW bug report forum[1], which contains a sticky-thread of known bugs. Stick to threads that have a Blizzard response confirming the bug.

Past changes

In chronological order, list the changes that have been made to the ability through patches. If no changes, or if the changes are unknown, delete this section.

Overview

Functionality

Sweeping Strikes is an Arms Tree Talent Ability, unlocked at 21 points of Arms Mastery. It is a short duration self-buff, costs a large amount of Rage and functions similarly to Ability warrior cleave [Cleave]; for the next five melee swings, all melee attacks hit both the target, and the enemy nearest to him as well. This applies to any abilities used within the duration as well.

Use

  • Cast Cost: 30 Rage
  • Cast Time: Instant
  • Duration: 5 Melee Swings (10 Melee Swings or 10 seconds - Patch 2.3.0)
  • School and Damage Type: Physical
  • Targets/Positioning: Self
  • Range: Self
  • Cooldown 30 Seconds
  • Stances: Ability warrior offensivestance [Battle Stance]

Talents

None

Notes

Requires Melee Weapon Equipped.
Stacks with Ability warrior cleave [Cleave], causing four attacks on two enemies every swing, each with a standard critical chance.
Sweeping Strikes will not cause Execute to strike a nearby opponent unless the nearby opponent has less than 20% health (does not consume a charge of Sweeping Strikes either). If you use a special attack like Slam or Mortal Strike on an opponent, it will strike the nearest opponent if you have Sweeping Strikes up. In the case of Mortal Strike, though, only the damage is dealt; the second mob will not get the debuff from the attack.

Rank Table

Only one rank.

Tips and Tactics

Combined with Ability warrior cleave [Cleave], this is a good way to deal with Adds, or pulling two enemies at a time, but both this, and Ability warrior cleave [Cleave], cost a lot of Rage, so timing and careful judgment of the odds are essential.

Using Sweeping Strikes in combination with Cleave against two enemies will grant two hits against each enemy, for a total of four hits in one swing. However, it will also use two charges of Sweeping Strikes.

In a tight spot with two mobs on you, combining this with Ability demonhunter demonspikes2 [Retaliation] can swing the battle in your favor.

Sweeping Strikes doesn't always work; if you don't see the damage above the second mob's head, chances are the enemies aren't positioned correctly. Try to move around so that they're close together and standing side-by-side to get the effect of the ability.
