The Silvermoon Remnant is a collection of High Elves that remained loyal to the Alliance after the destruction of Quel'Thalas and the splintering of the Blood Elves from the Alliance. Not all High Elves are part of the Remnant, and its members are scattered throughout Azeroth. Many travelled across the Great Sea with Jaina Proudmoore to Kalimdor and helped her build the island city of Theramore. They are themselves attempting to found a city to call their own on Kalimdor.

It is possible that Ranger Lord Hawkspear is the default leader of the Silvermoon Remnant, being the highest ranking High Elf known on Azeroth. Whether or not certain High Elves are part of the Remnant is a matter of controversy.

Relations

The High Elves of the Silvermoon Remnant count many among their enemies, with Forest Trolls (both living and undead), the Scourge, Blood Elves, the Forsaken and their Horde allies evident.

They maintaining friendly relations with the Wildhammer Dwarves and the Alliance (both on Azeroth and in Outland), although the acceptance of Night Elves into the Alliance will likely create further distance between the two factions.

If the High Elven bases of Quel'Danil and Quel'Lithien are indeed Remnant controlled, then both the Scarlet Crusade and Argent Dawn are their close neighbours, and relations are likely between them and at least one of these organizations. It is possible that the Crusade recruited Ranger Captain Fellari Swiftarrow from the Remnant, along with other high elven Rangers.

Factions within the Remnant

Generally speaking, High Elves can see the world three ways. Some look to the Spell holy surgeoflight [Holy Light] for guidance and strength in their current predicament, while others, claiming that the Light abandoned them when Arthas invaded Quel'Thalas, become more reliant on the arcane for survival in a harsh new world. A third section is undecided, and they likely feel the most anguish among High Elves.

Due to the stark contrast between the first two groups, there is almost certainly infighting between them, with both groups claiming to know how best to lead their people.

Current activities

High Elven soldiery, whether Remnant or not, have been seen hunting the Undead from the Eastern Plaguelands to Ashenvale Forest, intent on destroying the menace and relieving their suffering. Secretly however, High Elves are searching for suitable locations throughout Azeroth for a new city to call their own. Any locations considered possible by the Elves are known only by those who ordered the search, likely the Remnant, as the only solely High Elven organization known. From a glance, possible locations range from Felwood or Ashenvale, both scattered with Moonwells and lush or redeemable vegetation, to the so called 'Highvale' in the Hinterlands, a verdant land already settled by High Elves, or even somewhere in Quel'Thalas itself, still held dear by them.

Refugees from the Ghostlands (who either fled Arthas' invasion or the rise of the Blood Elves) hidden in Zul'Aman[1] will likely be escorted to Quel'Lithien soon. The Scourge believes that these Elves intend to recreate the Sunwell, and pursue them constantly.

Now that the fate of Quel'Thalas' expedition to Draenor has been revealed, the Silvermoon Remnant may try to entice them back to Azeroth to help them with their endeavours. With Alleria Windrunner's veterans beside them, the Remnant may even be able to reclaim some of their beloved homeland from the Blood Elves, who already have their hands full combating the Scourge and the Alliance.

Standing Forces

High Elven soldiers are not currently engaged in any activities other than guarding their bases. Forces in Quel'Danil appear to be far better equipped than their comrades in Quel'Lithien, which may be a sign that Quel'Danil is developing into the Remnant's primary base. Quel'Danil's defenders are also deployed in the traditional fashion, with archers, rangers and swordsmen, while Quel'Lithien's forces are more ragged, with lightly armoured axemen and scouts forming the bulk of their ranks.

Faction in World of Warcraft

It had been mentioned in the Patch 1.6 that the Silvermoon Remnant would become a faction, however before the patch was implemented Blizzard updated the Patch to Patch 1.6.1, where the new faction was removed for no explained reason.
