Blast Wave is a mage spell that deals Fire damage and dazes all enemies within 8 yards of the target location. The spell is an instant area of effect. The daze effect lasts for 3 seconds, and the spell has a 15 second cooldown.
Notes
There is some confusion over Blast Wave's daze effect. The daze itself (which is also called 'Blast Wave') is classified as being in the physical school, however, it is different from other daze effects in that it is an effect of a magic spell. Any ability that removes movement impairing effects or remove's harmful spell effects thus also removes the daze from Blast Wave. This includes, but is not limited to, a paladin's [Blessing of Freedom], a rogue's [Cloak of Shadows], or any immunity granting effects such as [Ice Block] or [Divine Shield]. Similarly, the daze effect from Blast Wave does not dismount players. There are reports, however, of players being dismounted by blast wave due to the knock back effect being added in patch 3.0. The knock back effect was subsequently removed in patch 4.0.1.
Improvements
Talents
Blast Wave deals fire damage, and thus gains the benefit of the talents [Master of Elements], Ignite, [Fire Power], [Molten Fury].
As with all mage spells capable of critical hits [Molten Fury], [Piercing Ice] and [Shatter] can increase the effective damage output of this spell.
Glyphs
The subject of this article was removed from World of Warcraft in patch 5.0.4.

Tips and tactics
With the talent Improved Flamestrike, Blast Wave is best used before [Flamestrike] on aoe packs, allowing the talent to proc a free [Flamestrike] on the target area.
This spell was previously cast in the same situations as [Arcane Explosion], with the added benefit of snaring everything it hits, and knocking them back a few yards.
Between Blast Wave, [Frost Nova], [Cone of Cold], [Blink], Cold Armors, and [Frostbolt], a mage is a slippery target to catch.
This spell adds another spell to both the mage's area damage and crowd control lists. It deals excellent damage, and the daze allows a mage to run clear and start another spell before the targets come back to full speed.
