History

Thaurissan was opened November 16, 2006 at approximately 3:00am PST and has become part of the Bloodlust Battlegroup. It was created initially for free character transfers from the other Oceanic PvP realms Frostmourne and Jubei'Thos. As the server increased in size the Horde to Alliance ratio began to spiral out of control, with the Horde population significantly outnumbering the Alliance. On April 21, 2008 Blizzard opened up a new Oceanic realm, Dreadmaul. When it was opened, free character transfers were allowed from other Oceanic PVP realms. Due to the Horde to Alliance imbalance most of the Alliance left Thaurissan for Dreadmaul. This resulted in a huge Horde to Alliance population imbalance with only one major Alliance guild (Ninja Assassin Sushi) choosing to remain on the server.

From June 12, 2008 to June 19, 2008 Blizzard initiated free Alliance PVE to PVP transfers to Thaurissan. Alliance from the Oceanic PvE realms Nagrand, Aman'Thul and Khaz'goroth were eligible for free transfers to the Thaurissan realm. Taking advantage of the opportunity to move from PVE to PVP, a significant number of Alliance transferred to Thaurissan including several major raiding guilds. Although the Horde still outnumbered Alliance, the population became far better balanced than it had been in the past. Despite this attempt by Blizzard to rectify the population problem, many of the Alliance transfers left for other PvP realms when they were able to transfer again and the ratio has since begun to revert to a Horde dominated state.

In Warcraft lore Thaurissan was the ruler of the dark iron dwarves. In game, the ruined city of Thaurissan can be found in the Burning Steppes.

Battleground Queue Times

Queue times for Battlegrounds on Thaurissan are increasing at the moment due to change to make an 80 only bracket for Alterac Valley and the number of players required to begin a match. However, the Bloodlust Battlegroup will soon be merged with a EU Battlegroup. Alliance players perform extremely well in all Battlegrounds and are dominant at most of them. The approximate data provided below is based on Cynarra's (Alliance) record for 1000 battlegrounds played during 2009.

Level 80 BG AllianceAlliance HordeHorde Win Ratio
Warsong Gulch < 1 min < 1 min Alliance2:1Horde

Wintergrasp Record

The battle of Wintergrasp is extremely popular on Thaurissan despite the revision of quests to a weekly basis. Matches during prime time usually involve both sides having their limits of 120 players, whereas off-peak Alliance players will have four or more stacks of tenacity, generally resulting in difficult offense. The record for Wintergrasp matches is available below and is based on Archavon's Journal inside the Keep.

Raiding Progression

Raiding guilds of Thaurissan are exceptionally focused upon completion of Ulduar and Trial of the Crusader content, rapidly eliminating difficult encounters. As such displaying, the overwhelming quantity of feats completed by advanced guilds is problematic. Presenting the pinnacle of these for both factions has been undertaken in the tables below for enhanced comprehension of where progression currently resides. Relevant and reliable data regarding these tables has been developed and updated by Katryn and is available to examine in a greater extent here

Economies

This section has been created with the intention of showing the top 5 high-in-demand Auction House items and their average prices for both factions. The items in question have been chosen by the Most Auctioned Items list on the official site and will only include those in the higher tier. Displaying these will allow for an increased understanding of Buying and Selling power to those that wish to change factions or have shown interest in the realm. Decimals refer to silver.

TOTAL NUMBER OF AUCTIONS ACTIVE (Average)

  • Alliance: 10,000
  • Horde: 21,500

Infinite Dust (Single)

  • Alliance: 5.50
  • Horde: 5
  • Difference: 0.50 Horde

Saronite Ore (Stack of 20)

  • Alliance: 20
  • Horde: 18
  • Difference: 2 Horde

Frostweave Cloth (Stack of 20)

  • Alliance: 7.50
  • Horde: 10
  • Difference: 2.50 Alliance

Greater Cosmic Essence (Single)

  • Alliance: 17.50
  • Horde: 12
  • Difference: 5.50 Horde

Borean Leather (Stack of 20)

  • Alliance: 14
  • Horde: 15
  • Difference: 1 Alliance

Ultimately high supply favors the Horde's buyers and lower supply, the Alliance's sellers. In general, the differences in prices aren't too high, despite the Alliance's smaller player base. For players interested in Argent Tournament Pets the Alliance have very low prices for all, whereas Horde pay ridiculous sums for Alliance pets. In terms of the Neutral Auction Houses, they're barely used because of the 15% Auction fee.
