- Potion of Petrification
- Requires Level 50
- Item Level 60
- Use: You turn to stone, absorbing up to 6000 total damage, but you are unable to move, attack, or cast spells.
- Sell Price: 50
- Cooldown: 60 sec
Potion of Petrification is a consumable that protects the player from physical attacks and all spells, but makes the player unable to perform any action.
Previously known as the Flask of Petrification, several quests and items still refer to it by that name. However, it shares none of the current characteristics of a Flask.
Notes
This item will petrify the imbiber until either 30 seconds have passed, or 6,000 damage has been absorbed.
This is not a Flask, though once it was considered one. It does trigger the potion cooldown. It is unknown if it benefits from Mixology or alchemist's stones.
It does not remove any buffs (including elixirs and flasks), nor does it remove any debuffs (or prevent future ones from landing). It does not cause loss of aggro, although it does make avoidance (dodge/block/parry) impossible.
Source
Potion of Petrification is created by Alchemists with a skill level of 300.
7x [Stonescale Oil] | 1x [Crystal Vial] |
The recipe for this item is taught by Recipe: Flask of Petrification is an Azeroth (Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor) World Drop.
Patches and Hotfixes
Patch 3.2.0 (2009-08-04): Name changed from Flask of Petrification to Potion of Petrification. Effect redesigned.
Prior to this patch, this item had the effect
- Use: You turn to stone, protecting you from all physical attacks and spells for 60 sec, but during that time you cannot attack, move or cast spells. Counts as both a Battle and Guardian elixir.
It had a cooldown of 3 seconds.
The cost at that time was 7 [Stonescale Oil], 3 [Mountain Silversage], 1 [Black Lotus], and 1 [Crystal Vial].
At that time, it would dispel all other buffs and debuffs on the player, and cause the player to drop off the aggro table ala [Divine Intervention]. The effect could neither be dispelled nor dismissed.
Historical Notes
This item (prior to patch 3.2.0) was made famous by a video called "God Mode" where a paladin jumped off a building in Orgrimmar and drank the potion and proceeded to scream "KILL ME!!!!!!!...!!!" repeated (on a macro). Then as soon as it wore off he would bubble and hearth. After the fiasco he was reported and a GM responded and talked with Mr. God Mode and he proceeded to smart off to the GM and risked suspension or ban.
