With mastery of the dark powers wielded by Warlocks, the souls of others become little more than a plaything. In fact, some are likely to gorge themselves on the life energies of others in obscene ways while they forge the Soul Shards used in their various rituals and magics.
Functionality
In order to proc this talent you or your minion needs to actually deliver the killing blow to the target enemy, which can be tricky in groups.
Notes
The trick to get the mana as a Shadowbolt spammer:
Make sure you stay at max drain soul distance. Easy on caster and ranged mobs. For melee mobs, let the Voidwalker or Felguard keep it at the distance. Reduce the mobs health such that it is one Shadowbolt from death.
Send in the executing Shadowbolt and follow immediately with a Drain Soul. The Shadowbolt flies slowly, the Drain Soul connects instantly, before the SB lands and executes.
As of Patch 2.1 you should receive mana even if your demon lands the killing blow, so there is no need to call them back at the same time as starting the Drain Soul.
If you have problems with too many Soul Shards, addons like Necrosis have support for automatic deletion.
