Flame Shock is one of the three shock spells available to shamans. This is considered the most mana-efficient shock, owing to the higher total damage when the DoT is added. Because the DoT component now critically strikes without a glyph any shaman can increase the effectiveness of this spell through Spell crit.

It has a 6-second cooldown shared with other shocks, which makes all the shocks unusable for 6 seconds.
Since patch 3.3.3 The DoT portion can crit without its respective Glyph, and it is affected by haste.

- [Concussion] increases its damage by {1/2/3/4/5}%.
- Reverberation reduces the cooldown of all Shock spells by {0.2/0.4/0.6/0.8/1} second.
- [Elemental Focus] its critical strikes has a chance to put the casting Shaman into the Clearcasting state which reduces the cost of the Shaman's next 2 damage or healing spells by 40%.
- [Elemental Fury] increases its critical strike damage by {20/40/60/80/100}%.
- [Elemental Precision] increases its chance to hit by {1/2/3}% and reduces its threat by {10/20/30}%.
- While active, [Elemental Mastery] will increase your spell haste by 15% for 15 seconds.
- [Shamanistic Focus] reduces its cost by 45%.
- [Mental Quickness] reduces its cost by {2/4/6}%.
- Storm, Earth and Fire increases the DoT portion by {20/40/60}%.
- [Glyph of Flame Shock] allows the DoT portion to critical hit.
Tips and tactics
Refreshing the DoT may cause you to lose a few periodic damage ticks.
Like all DoT spells, Flame Shock can be used to prevent rogues from stealthing during combat.
With the always crit aspect of Lava Burst when Flame Shock is, Flame Shock + Lava Burst is a staple for Elemental Shamans, and a good source of damage for Enhancement Shaman.
Patch changes
- Patch 3.3.3 (2010-03-23): The damage-over-time component of this ability can now produce critical strikes and is affected by spell haste.
- Patch 3.2.2 (2009-09-22): The duration of all ranks has been increased by 6 seconds.
