faction pages[]

Pages such as Silvermoon City (faction) seem to be relatively new here. I encountered them in the process of running through the Argent Tournament achievements (eg Horde Inv misc tournaments symbol orc [Champion of Orgrimmar]). This does open things up for the vast numbers of Azeroth/old world quests to need updating for their reputation tooltip tags. I stubbed a number of those pages that hadn't been touched yet. Saw your handwriting on the faction pages, thought I should send ya a comment. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 23:33, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Windows Model Viewer[]

Regarding the viewer, I ran across the following:

When an article says something like, "The name "flesh titan" is taken from the game files as no other name is known.", which "game files" are we talking about? Is it using WoW Model Viewer, some other program, a text editor, wowhead, or what? It would be nice to look at all these "unofficially named creatures". I have a Mac by the way. Rolandius (talk - contr) 05:26, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Not sure we are actually allowed to list what program is actually being used... due to the datamine rules :p...Baggins (talk) 06:03, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
But we are allowed to use the terms from said programs? Rolandius (talk - contr) 06:26, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Yes, unless something else replaces it.Baggins (talk) 06:33, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

This leaves me with questions:

  1. In what way would the "datamining rules" be relevant? Was the model (or whatever) not released at the time? If it was fully a jest, you seem to have continued it instead of disabusing Rolandius.
  2. If this was a general prohibition against nerfing through the data files, how can it be justified that we use the data so gained? There are real world comparisons to draw upon here. The fact that there's a wiki page with links to the WMV argues against a general prohibition, especially as there is no explicit caution about datamining on the page.

outdated PVP guides[]

Thanks for offering your help , now it looks like its time for me to use it =)

it looks like almost half of all the data in pvp articles is outdated. well , there is a sign , saying that it is , but no one actually does anything about it . and im not that good will all the classes to be able to edit all of it - there some serious changes several classes are getting lately , and it would be really great to have some pvpers edit their class-regarding parts of articles. not only their own class guides , but the parts of others , like "how to fight a paladin" in a druid pvp guide . im trying to go over warriors , druids and hunters , but i miss the other sides' opinions , according to their latest changes. and i also might be wrong at some places......well , i think you get the idea.

anything you think that we can do about it ?

Elemental (L|l)ords?[]

Comment was made on Category:Elemental lords that the category name capitalization does not match the page name capitalization. An "Elemental Lords" category apparently did exist at one point. The summary of the category has gone through several permutations as well. Someone pointed at you as keeper of the lore on the issue, but I don't see anyone expressly asking. Should the category use all caps, like the page? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:10, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Warcraft III Units[]

I looked at the red links page, and I noticed that a lot of red links are warcraft III units, i wanted to add them but a lot of these units already have a page, but without the warcraft III statistics. should I create whole new pages, or add the unit statistics to excisting pages? Mezirsha (talk) 16:34, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

It comes from {{Warcraft III units}}. It used to be lore pages with a statistics section, but was changed to a series of Battle.net-ish pages about gameplay (See the template's edit history). It is not getting finished for some reason.--SWM2448 17:41, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
ah okay, thanks. Mind if I try to finish it? :P —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mezirsha (talk · contr).
Nope. Though, if it does not get done soon I may revert it back temporarily to clean up the links.--SWM2448 19:04, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
I think it should stay with red links, it ecourages people (like Mezirsha) to make the articles. Benitoperezgaldos (talk) 22:48, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
On the other hand, I thought red links were not encouraged? I myself have gotten in trouble for making one here and there. The Warcraft III ones make up 38 red links (top 38 on Special:WantedPages) with 120 articles links to each. That is 4000 plus affected articles. Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 00:43, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
4000+ affected links; due to the template, they're incestuous. Still, Go for it, Mezirsha, if you're up to it. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:28, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Not quite the place. The difference here is that these pages, however abandoned they may be, probably should be made. Low quality red links are not encouraged, just like low quality pages, but more so due to the emptiness.--SWM2448 00:51, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Like you said above, "if it does not get done soon...." and they should be made but may never get made or take forever. It already has been awhile since they have been made red links. Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 00:55, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, we'll see. Give it more time.--SWM2448 00:59, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
Okay. Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 01:22, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

How do you do Warcraft 2 screenshots without crosshatching on minimap?[]

Hi, I saw your File:Channel_islands.jpg (compare to mine: img220.imageshack.us/img220/4884/dareregionofthechanneli.png and was wondering, how do you do Warcraft 2 screenshots of the minimap without the crosshatching on?

Even when I use the cheat (press enter type 'showpath' then enter again, that one) it just displays all of the map and stuff that isn't currently being 'seen' by one of your people is greyed out/crosshatched out on the minimap. So not sure how you took that screenshot? Thanks for any info :)

Might be good to post the info on the wiki for others so it's common knowledge, especially if you know how to do the same for the other games like Warcraft 1! I have only just been trying them out cos I was curious about the background story behind world of warcraft --Kittymew (talk) 12:25, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Would like to interview you[]

Hi Baggins,

I’m continuing my research (on WoWWiki and WoWPedia) this summer and hope to interview several of the core contributors about their experiences. Would you be available at some point this summer for an interview?

I also wanted to share an article of mine about WoWWiki that was recently published; you can find it on the front page of my website (linked to from my faculty page, below). For the most part it talks about the writing processes of the community and how members work well together because of shared attitudes and beliefs about writing on a wiki. If you have any questions or feedback, I’d love to hear it.

Thanks for considering this. If you're interested in participating, you can contact me here via email <tinyurl [dot] com/5ug7gqq>. Dakhma (talk) 14:18, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
