Emblem of Heroism is a currency used in Northrend to buy epic and heirloom quality items.

This item drops from bosses in 5-player heroic dungeons and 10-player raids with the exception of the 10-player Ulduar raid. They are also rewarded from the heroic daily quests from Dalaran or purchased for 1 
[Emblem of Valor] from 
Arcanist Adurin <Emblem of Valor Quartermaster> or 
Magister Brasael <Emblem of Valor Quartermaster> (patch 3.0.8).

Emblem of Heroism vendors can be found all over Dalaran in the various weapon and armor shops selling the appropriate armor for their location, as well as in the Alliance and Horde quarters of Dalaran:
