Changes: Elven (language)

This article contains information from the Warcraft RPG which is considered non-canon.

Elven is also a unique dialect derived from original Darnassian tongue. Its used by at least one half-elf such as the banshee IelephiaTemplate:Cite, and some races living on Mount HyjalTemplate:Cite. This is likely one of the four elven dialects.Template:Cite

This language is not to be confused with Thalassian which is sometimes referred to as "High Elven" by individuals who are unfamiliar with its proper name.

Speculation

"Elven" has an apparent connection to DnD derived generic languages, which apparently can be found in DnD rule books. In the RPG it is listed as a separate language from Darnassian, Nazja and Thallassian.

As most of the sources that use the term "Elven", predate Warcraft Encyclopedia they were probably not using it as a reference to the term "High Elven" another name for the Thalassian language.

Additionally Cycle of Hatred uses the term "elven" to describe four total distinct dialects used by elves, and races descended from elves. However it does not list the four dialects by name. It can be assumed that they would include Thalassian, Nazja, Darnassian, and a final mystery language. The mystery language could be "Elven", or it might be some as of yet unknown language.
