Dragonmaw Transporters carry Netherwing crystals and relics to the Dragonmaw Fortress on the mainland of Shadowmoon Valley from the Netherwing Ledge. Yarzill the Merc on the Ledge gives you a quest to kill them and recover 10 Netherwing Relics.

They fly in predictable paths over several of the larger rocks out in the Nether, and can be pulled with any sort of ranged attack. They will land, the drake will appear but be friendly and not attack, while the transporter himself will attack with a combination of melee and point-blank crossbow shots that can do upward of 2000 damage on cloth, as well as a Spell hunter exoticmunitions poisoned [Serpent Sting] poison DoT and Inv spear 07 [Aimed Shot].

They appear to be immune to crowd controls; Ability warstomp [War Stomp], Ability druid mangle [Maim], Spell nature earthbind [Cyclone], Spell shadow possession [Fear] and Spell shadow deathcoil [Death Coil] do not work on them.

They hit 25% damage reduction for about 230 with regular melee and around 2250 with Aimed Shot.

The drop rate appears to be about 45% for the relics.

After the fight, the drake will thank you in one of several ways ("What you do for the Netherwing does not go unnoticed", "Thank you, friend", or "Za parn mannor" in Draconic) and fly off.

Notes

  • Bring something to remove poison if you can. Redcap Toadstools should work and are cheap.
  • The transporters drop Netherweave cloth, which can be made into Heavy Netherweave Bandages, to help save mana and money.
  • Stock up on food and water. They come fast enough that a feral druid runs out of mana pretty quickly.

Known Bugs

  • The Transporter can bug while landing so he never hits the ground. You can still attack, kill and loot these, but they do not fight back. The drake will not disappear afterward for some time, so it can clutter up the rather small area you have to fight.
  • The Transporter will run halfway across the rock after landing, then reappear at the original landing point, usually behind you if you've chased the mirage.
  • The above sometimes leads to the standard 'I'm right on top of you but you're too far away to hit me' bug, where you get either 'target must be in front of you' or 'out of range' while the mob is able to continue melee attacks from halfway across the zone.
  • Since Patch 2.3 attacking then while standing on small floating rocks will most likely cause them to evade. Only way to avoid it is to attack from "real ground" at Dragonmaw Fortress or near the peer at Netherwing Ledge. Aoe attacks still work from the rocks.
