The Deathforge Key is provided as an objective for 
[25-30] Bring Down the Warbringer!

As a quest item, if destroyed after completing the Deathforge quests, it cannot be recovered. Even after the key changes in Patch 4.2.0, this key is still needed to open the portcullis, and miners may want to retain it to access the Khorium vein located behind it.
