While you can be on one team of each type, at the end of each week you'll only gain points from the team that earned the most points that week.

* Assume that you were an active player on each team (i.e. your team played at least 10 battles '''and''' you participated in at least 30% of each teams battles)

Note: in the example we provided above the 1500 refers to the team's rating. The number of points an active player gets from a team is derived from the rating value plotted on a logistic curve.

−
[[Image:ArenaPoints09282007.jpg|thumb|337px|Graphical representation of AP calculation. (Updated 09/27/2007; updated for 2.2.)]]

−
"The transformation from your Team Rating to Arena Points starts off as a linear function, but once you go beyond a certain rating threshold, the function becomes logarithmic. This means that you will see a significant payoff increase once your Team Rating goes beyond a certain point, but the high-end spectrum of the ratings will eventually notice a decrease in how much bang they get for their buck."[http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/pvp/arena/] You can stockpile a maximum of 5,000 Arena Points.

−
−
Also, one of the points we were trying to illustrate above is that active players on that 5v5 team will gain 344 points each. This is the case regardless of whether there are 10 total active players on that team (the max possible), or merely 5 active players (the practical min).

−
−
Blizzard doesn't want to "split" points among active players, as that would encourage you to not have alternates on the team, and they don't want to pressure you to minmax the system by always having the min number of players for a team.

−
−
Bear in mind that the arena point return for your team's rating isn't linear.

−
−
That being said, Blizzard is deliberately trying to encourage the most competitive players to participate in the 5v5 battles, as they feel considerably more comfortable with the potential class balance in this environment. 2v2 has far more potential for certain class combinations to be heavily favored, and as such Blizzard is being conservative about how strongly they reward the smaller format sizes.

−
−
Your team only needs to fight 10 battles per week to be eligible for points. You can fight more if you so choose. However, due to the way the rating system works (and the way points are derived from rating), teams with high ratings are (in theory) increasingly likely to play only the minimum required number of battles.

===Formulae===

On 26 September 2007, the formulae used to calculate Arena Points were changed, as outlined on the official site about WoW arena's. [http://www.wowarmory.com/arena-calculator.xml]

=== Arena Point Calculators ===

−
−
Several [[Arena point calculator|Arena point calculators]] have been created by members of the WoW Community.

−
−
== Poorly merged in items from Formulas ==

−
The Arenas are a skill based PvP ladder combat system consisting of 2v2, 3v3, and 5v5 brackets.

−
−
The base value for a new team is 1500.

−
−
Every win increases your rating, and every loss decreases your rating. The amount gained or lost depends on the relative ratings of the two teams. Beating a team with a rating far lower than yours will net very few points, while beating a team with a rating far higher than yours will net a large number of points. TODO: actual formulas.

−
−
In order to be awarded Arena Points there are two criteria that must first be satisfied:

−
:*Your team must have played a minimum of ten matches for that week.

−
:*You must have participated in at least 30% of those matches.

−
−
During weekly maintenance, you get a number of points based on your rating. These points accumulate from week to week until you spend them. Arena Points do not degrade, however you are only allowed a maximum of 5000. From [http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/basics/arena/index.html the official Arena page], the formula is:

−
−
X = Team Rating, Y = Arena Points

−
If X>1500: Y = 1511.26/(1 + 1639.28 × 2.71828*e^(-0.00412*X))

−
Else: Y = .22*X+14

−
−
:*Note that 3v3 teams award 88% as many points for a given rating, and 2v2 teams award 76% as many points.

−
:*As of patch 2.2 the calculation formula and the bracket deficit was changed. It appears that fewer points are given per rating, but the 2v2/3v3 % deficit was adjusted to give more points than they previously did.

−
−
If you are in multiple arena teams, you get points for whichever team earned you the most points for that week. You do not get points from all three teams.

−
−
Example: Joe is in two arena teams, a 2-man team and a 5-man team. His 2-man team ended the week with a 1700 rating. This is worth 461 points. His 5-man team ended the week with a 1600 rating. This is worth 465 points. Joe gets 465 arena points for the week.
