− | ==Tips and tactics== |
||
− | Use Frost Nova to root enemies in place and then gain some range to cast spells without getting hit. This is especially effective against melee-only enemies, as they will not have any other way to attack you. Against caster-type enemies, use Frost Nova to gain range along with Counterspell to interrupt their casting. Also use Frost nova to root enemies that you may have pulled off the tank, and allow them to regain aggro. |
||
− | |||
− | Frost Nova is an important ability in frost talent specs that use Shatter, as it is a guaranteed freeze effect. The Shatter talent works on any target rooted by one of your frost spells. With Frostbite fully upgraded, any cold spell that snares has a 15% chance to root. Frost Nova, on the other hand, will always root, guaranteeing you can Shatter away with your next cast. |
||
− | |||
− | All ranks of this spell root the target(s) in place for the same amount of time and with the same resistance rates, and spell damage is never very much. Prior to Patch 3.0.2, some magi opted to always use the first rank due to the lower mana cost. However this is no longer an effective strategy as all spells are calculated as a percentage of base mana. Prior to Patch 3.3.0, this is especially true as spells under level 70 suffered from an increased mana cost compared to their higher level equivalents. |

Glyphs
- [Glyph of Holy Wrath] (Major Glyph) causes your Holy Wrath to also stun Elementals and Dragonkin. This glyph is intended for the primary enemies the player will encounter in Cataclysm; the black dragonflight and the denizens of the Elemental Plane.
Notes
- Holy Wrath cannot damage Forsaken NPCs or players, who are Humanoid (not Undead), except for the Abomination guards in Undercity because they are classified as Undead.
Tips & tricks
- Holy Wrath is the second best aggro-grab spell that the paladin has, the first being [Avenger's Shield]. Holy Wrath, unlike Avenger's Shield, will hit all surrounding targets and must thus be used carefully if casted in instances with large amounts of clustered mobs.
- While Holy Wrath is intended for causing damage and generating threat, Holy Paladins may also make use of it via the stun. A three-second stun on several opponents may be a lifesaver if one or more players in your group are about to die. When using this trick, be careful not to draw aggro.
Patch changes
- Patch 4.0.1 (2010-10-12): No longer uses ranks. Affected by new talents, along with the new resource Holy Power.
- Template:Patched
- Patch 2.4.0 (2008-03-25): [Libram of Wracking]: This item now increases the damage on Holy Wrath and [Exorcism] instead of decreasing their mana cost.
- Patch 2.3.0 (2007-11-13): Mana cost reduced.
- Patch 1.6.0 (2005-07-12): Now actually shoots bolts as per spell description.
