“Through the valleys and peaks of Mount Hyjal, across the shifting sands of Silithus, against the Legion's dread armies - we have fought. We are the nameless, faceless, sons and daughters of the Alliance. By the Light and by the might of the Alliance, the first strike belongs to us and the last strike is all that our enemies see.
We are 7th Legion.”
- — High Commander Halford Wyrmbane
The 7th Legion is an elite special operations regiment composed of the Alliance's most seasoned veteran fighters. Initially serving behind the scenes, the Legion became the face of the Alliance military during the Fourth War, leading Alliance incursions into Zandalar. Prior to that campaign as well as subsequently, they have participated in almost every major offensive and engagement the Alliance has been involved in.[1]
They fulfill a similar role to the Horde's Kor'kron Guard, a similarly elite organization; the two have frequently crossed blades during the various conflicts between the Alliance and Horde, including in Northrend and Pandaria.
History[]
Background[]
The 7th Legion has been known to have participated in the Battle of Mount Hyjal and in battles against the Horde and Burning Legion.[2]
World of Warcraft[]
During the Ahn'Qiraj War, the 7th Legion was part of the Might of Kalimdor in Silithus.
Wrath of the Lich King[]
Dragonblight[]
The 7th Legion have joined forces with Highlord Bolvar Fordragon's forces and have been running special operations against the Scourge in order for the Alliance to secure a foothold in the Dragonblight. Former Might of Kalimdor members August Foehammer, Lynore Windstryke, and Leoric Von Zeldig survived to fight once again in Northrend. They were stationed at Wintergarde Keep, where they fought against the undead legions of Naxxramas. Death knights of Ebon Blade joined the 7th Legion.
Isle of Conquest[]
Halford Wyrmbane led the 7th Legion on the Isle of Conquest, where they fought Kor'kron warriors under the command of Overlord Agmar.
Icecrown Citadel[]
While the forces of the Ashen Verdict fought through Icecrown Citadel, the 7th Legion and the Kor'kron engaged in an aerial battle outside (using The Skybreaker and Orgrim's Hammer, respectively).
Cataclysm[]
Halford Wyrmbane led the 7th Legion to the Ruins of Gilneas, where they helped the Gilneas Liberation Front against the Forsaken invaders.
While unofficial, the soldiers at Victor's Point appear to be 7th Legion soldiers.
Tides of War[]
A majority of the 7th Legion naval fleet, under the command of Horran Redmane, was decimated in the defense of Theramore Isle.
Mists of Pandaria[]
The 7th Legion fleet anchored off the coast of the Krasarang Wilds as part of the Alliance vanguard arriving in Pandaria. They served as the main force in the battles between Alliance and Horde forces in that region.[3] Troops and ships from the Legion, alongside the garrison of Lion's Landing, participated in attacks against the Horde stronghold of Domination Point.[4]
Some time later, elements of the Legion also participated in the assault on Zan'vess.
Legion[]
Several units of the 7th Legion were seen preparing for the battle for the Broken Shore in Stormwind Harbor.
The 7th Legion were also deployed along with the Skyfire and King Genn Greymane's forces to escort Alliance champions to Stormheim and unofficially, to intercept Sylvanas Windrunner's fleet.[5] After engaging the fleet, the Skyfire was sabotaged by Forsaken boarders and crashes on Stormheim. The 7th Legion stayed at the front of the ship to fight off storm drakes while the crew evacuated.[6] An Alliance adventurer rescued the missing Legionnaires from storm drakes and brought them back to the Skyfire Triage Camp.[7]
Following this, they became a recruit-able option for the Valarjar after the freeing of Lord Darius Crowley.[8]
Several units were seen aboard Wind's Redemption when it sailed from Stormwind City to Azuremyst Isle.
Battle for Azeroth[]
This section is a lore stub. |
Members of the 7th Legion guarded the Stormwind Stockades which contained Princess Talanji and Prophet Zul of the Zandalari Empire, as well as Varok Saurfang of the Horde captured during the Siege of Lordaeron. The Stockades were infiltrated by a Horde group in order to free the Zandalari trolls. The guards, along with Mage-Commander Lyra, were all killed.[9]
On King Anduin Wrynn's orders, the 7th Legion traveled to Kul Tiras with Genn Greymane to ensure that Jaina Proudmoore's mission of getting the Kul Tirans to rejoin the Alliance succeeded.[10] They can be found aboard the Wind's Redemption docked at Boralus, where under Wyrmbane's command they work to secure the Alliance's position on Kul Tiras and Zandalar.[11]
Elements of the Legion were also found on the Sword of Dawn; they participated in the Battle for Stromgarde.
The 7th Legion was stationed near Shadowfang Keep where Chief Plaguebringer Harris developed a new bio-weapon. It was unleashed on them while Horde champions encountered Captain Tobias Zaren.[12]
During the Faction Assaults, some members of the 7th Legion were present among the Purified, an Alliance contingent of human, draenei, dwarf, and Lightforged soldiers empowered by the Light[13] who protect the people of Drustvar.
Exploring Azeroth[]
Following the war against the Jailer, the brothers Bronzebeard visited Wintergarde Keep in Dragonblight. Since the Lich King's defeat, the bulk of the 7th Legion forces there moved on to where they were most needed, but a small detachment remained to keep an eye on Dragonblight. They gave them a warm welcome at the keep.[14]
